Los Repositorios de Material Educativo Digital permiten que profesores y estudiantes puedan almac... more Los Repositorios de Material Educativo Digital permiten que profesores y estudiantes puedan almacenar y recuperar fácilmente sus recursos educativos para usarlos en los actuales entornos de aprendizaje virtual y presencial. Asimismo, constituyen un mecanismo eficaz para difundir y valorar la calidad de la producción didáctica de los profesores. Finalmente, se consideran un indicador del uso excelente de las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones en la docencia de las instituciones educativas. El objetivo del presente estudio es explorar el grado en que las universidades españolas cumplen actualmente el criterio de la excelencia consistente en tener repositorios educativos y el modo en el que éstos han evolucionado a lo largo de estos años. Se espera que las conclusiones derivadas del análisis puedan contribuir al diseño de estrategias dirigidas a la promoción de la creación y el uso de materiales educativos digitales de alta calidad en España.
The repositories of digital educational materials allow teachers and students to easily share educational resources for their use in electronic and blended learning environments. Besides, educational repositories are an effective tool for the diffusion and quality assessment of teachers’ educational material production. Not in vain, educational
repositories work also as indicators of the excellence in use of ICT in the
teaching/learning process. The aim of the present study is to explore the extent to which Spanish Universities currently meet the excellence criterion of having educational repositories and the new ways in which those have been developed along these years. The conclusions derived from the analysis are expected to contribute to the design of strategies
aimed at promoting the creation and use of high quality digital educational material in Spain.

The new UCM Master’s Degree in Secondary School Teacher Education has been designed in the light ... more The new UCM Master’s Degree in Secondary School Teacher Education has been designed in the light of the European Higher Education criteria. In the case of English, the curriculum includes a Final Research Paper to be written and defended by students, in proficient English, at the end of the academic year. However, as the program has been running for two years now, it is due time to state that most of these final research papers have presented difficulties that need to be overcome. Students happened to complain to have serious problems to approach the papers and to comply with the guidelines established; supervisors did not always seem to realize the level of difficulty and the real aims of the papers in progress, and the same for evaluators, not always getting the expected results, whatever that means in this context of uneasiness. The present paper aims to decipher the sources of difficulty pointing to all the members of the academic community involved: students, supervisors and evaluators. With this purpose in mind, a unique questionnaire has been designed for all of them to report the difficulties they found in terms of organization, secondary sources and supporting ideas, data collection and analysis, grammar and style. Our expectations are that the analysis of results will lead to a better understanding of the problem and, consequently, to a better approach to the necessary solutions that need to be provided.

Motivation continues to play a major role in the area of EFL/ESL learning due to the fact that st... more Motivation continues to play a major role in the area of EFL/ESL learning due to the fact that students’ attitudes towards learning a foreign language often result to be the predictors of further success or failure. The present research paper aims at analyzing the motivation patterns towards learning the English language shown by EFL Modern Languages Humanities students of the Complutense University of Madrid.
This study intends to measure and analyze Humanities students’ degree of motivation in terms of the three motivational constructs established in the works by Gardner (1985) and Cooper and Fishman (1977): (i) instrumental motivation, (ii) integrative motivation and (iii) personal motivation. Aspects other like learners’ attitudes towards the use of English in the social and educational contexts or the culture of the English speaking countries have been also considered.
In the light of the findings and conclusions to be reached in this work, some pedagogical implications will be also discussed in a final section of the paper.

The ever-increasing presence of e-learning tools in education at different levels has brought abo... more The ever-increasing presence of e-learning tools in education at different levels has brought about a wealth of electronic teaching material, often convertible into Learning Objects (LOs). However, in spite of the advantages of the LO model and the technology associated with it, there is a gap between the IT knowledge and skills of the potential users of LO, i.e. the instructors, and the potential offered by the LO approach. Showing an example of academic R&D put to the service of education, this paper presents a novel procedure for the transparent creation of LOs which can then be stored and managed in LO repositories. This procedure uses a tool for quality assessment to guide the construction process of LOs.

the Spanish University during the academic year 2009/10, thus responding to the
new demands of the Organic Education Law 2/2006 (Organic Law 2/2006, of 3
May) requiring prospective teachers to take a course on pedagogical skills. Being
criticized since the beginning of its implementation due to lack of precision in
planning and teaching organization as much as coordination and information, this
Master can be said to have had turbulent beginnings. This year marks the fourth
anniversary of its implementation in the Complutense University of Madrid. In this
paper, we aim to analyze its trajectory throughout the opinions of the students
majoring in Foreign Languages: English.
