Liz Coulter-Smith
Liz Coulter-Smith, MFA, BFA, PGCHE, FHEA, PGCertResearch Methods, is a PhD candidate at the University of Plymouth, a Lecturer in Computing at the Games Academy, Falmouth University, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). A seasoned researcher, designer/creative coder, and educator, she has successfully woven together the fields of art, science, and technology throughout her career, spanning over 20 years.
Holding senior lecturing positions in ten universities across Australia and the United Kingdom, Liz is the Course Leader for both the Masters in Indie Games (IGD) and UXD degree (Online) at Falmouth University. She is in the final year of her doctoral studies at the University of Plymouth. Her PhD thesis, titled 'Computational Co-Creative Deep Learning as Practice,' intertwines digital media, human-machine interaction, and cognitive science, underpinning her specialisation in digital media and technology, focusing on AI and human factors.
Liz's work encapsulates a rich array of publications in areas such as art-based games, AI in higher education, locative media, animation history, art and technology, and attention and digital pedagogy. Her most recent contribution, 'The AI Economy and Higher Education,' is featured in the edited book by Andreas Kaplan, 'Digital Transformation and Disruption of Higher Education,' published by Cambridge University Press 2022. Parallel to her academic achievements, her large-scale digital prints, installations, and drawings have garnered recognition and have been exhibited internationally.
