Irish Wholesale Inflation Rises to 8-Month High
Wholesale prices in Ireland rose by 3.3% from the previous year in December of 2024, picking up from the 2.1% annual increase in the previous month to record the sharpest increase in wholesale costs since April. Ireland's Wholesale Prices Return to Inflation
Wholesale prices in Ireland rose by 2.1% year-on-year in November 2024, reversing a 1.7% drop in October and ending a three-month period of deflation. Prices increased at a faster pace for mining and quarrying (3.4% vs 1.1% in October) and for food products, beverages, and tobacco (2.5% vs 0.5%). Additionally costs rebounded sharply for transportable goods (2.2% vs -1.8%) and manufacturing excluding food (2.1% vss -2.1%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose by 1.9%, the largest increase since August 2023, accelerating from a 1.6% rise in October.

Ireland Wholesale Prices Fall at Softer Pace
Wholesale prices in Ireland dropped by 1.7% year-on-year in October 2024, after a revised 2.6% fall in the previous month. Prices declined at a slower rate for wood & wood products (-0.5% vs -2.4% in September) and rubber & plastic (-3.4% vs -3.5%). Additionally, costs increased mainly for food products (1.1% vs 0.5%), leather & related products (1.1% vs 0.5%), paper & paper products (1.6% vs 0.6%), other non-metallic mineral products (2.3% vs 1.5%), fabricated metals (2.5% vs 1.7%), and mining & quarrying (1.1% vs 0.8%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose by 1.6% in October, rebounding from a revised 0.7% decrease in September.
