WASHINGTON, March 3. /TASS/. The crackdown in relations between Europe and the United States over Ukraine, which erupted into an argument between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, marks the end of the West's unity, The Washington Post said.
According to the newspaper, the incident at the White House has turned into a fiasco for Kiev and could become a turning point in the history of the Ukrainian conflict. The Washington Post notes that Trump and his Vice President, JD Vance, "may delight in shocking Europe, but their counterparts across the pond are coming to terms with the collapse of a united West." The breakdown of the US-European alliance, along with Trump's pursuit of a more limited vision of American interests, suggests that the world is entering a new era, the publication asserts.
On February 28, Zelensky arrived at the White House to meet with Trump. During the conversation, the two engaged in an argument, during which Trump pointed out to Zelensky that he showed disrespect toward the US that he had forgotten to thank Washington for the support provided to Kiev. As a result, the scheduled press conference was canceled, and the parties did not sign the minerals agreement. Later, Trump stated that Zelensky had been disrespectful and unprepared for a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
