The First Sliver

Legendary Creature — Sliver

Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.)

Djh3max on cEDH upgrade ideas for First …

Hi all,

I have been working for a while on my first cEDH deck and I am getting to a point where I know there is room for improvement but I am not sure where. I am working on a semi budget so I have made certain choices so far to reflect that. Here is the deck list:

https://moxfield.com/decks/K8ynmFMH8UiyiHjr5GCfUw

The deck aims to win with the food chain cast from exile combo for infinite mana to infinitely cascade through the deck with The First Sliver and casting Lavabelly Sliver to ping the opponents to death with the infinite etb triggers from the commander. The secondary win con is through cards like Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact to exile the deck and win with either Laboratory Maniac, Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, or Thassa's Oracle. The rest of the deck consists of tutors to find my combo pieces, recursion spells in case I lose a piece, and counter spells. I also found that Transmute mechanic worked for extra tutors as well.

I know the land base needs a ton of work but i found that the filter/pain/fast lands were excellent budget friendly options. As far as the main deck goes, I am thinking that the first card to go should be Rhystic Study since it feels too slow for the pay off. I can consistently win on turn 5 with this list but I want to get that down to a consistent turn 4 win.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you!!

Hi, how about playing Lands, like Path of Ancestry or Sliver Hive? You could as well play The First Sliver, with is also a great commander in my sliver deck. What I really like in 5Color Sliver Decks is Bring to Light, it will get you any Sliver you need, including the 5 Colored Sliver Legends or even removal or a Patriarch's Bidding.

Originally it was due to the density of the 5CMC slot and that I had some reactionary spells and board wipes I didn't want to cascade into.

However, since then the board wipes in the deck now are asymmetrical or Blasphemous Act which has a CMC too high to cascade into. I guess that only leaves Negate and Swan Song for feel bad cascade hits.

I'll have to reconsider The First Sliver. The question would be what to take out.

For a fun one, Jegantha, the Wellspring and Progenitus.

Or how about going with Sliver-geddon and running The First Sliver and Sliver Overlord.

Or, because Urza, Lord High Artificer really needs access to all five colors, run him with Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch

Or perhaps you're just an evil person and you run Sakashima the Impostor so you can get a second Grand Arbiter Augustin IV on the battlefield.

Another pairing for those who hate their friends would be Maralen of the Mornsong and Ob Nixilis, Unshackled.

GeminiSpartanX There are many ways for Slivers to go infinite in mana, creatures or damage. I will start by listing 3 of the most common ones you will generally see to get you started. The rest I will leave for you to discover through play.

  1. Sliver Queen+Mana Echoes: The classic, will generate infinite mana and Sliver tokens, combine with a haste sliver for an infinite attack or use Lavabelly Sliver for infinite target damage and life.

  2. Basal Sliver+Sliver Queen+Lavabelly Sliver: Infinite target damage and life gain.

  3. Intruder Alarm+The First Sliver: Not truly an infinite combo on it's own but can be with the right setup or hit's off cascade triggers. Intruder Alarm combos with a ham sandwich so not hard to make infinite with mana/haste slivers and Hibernation Sliver and Darkheart Sliver.

Bonus: The most important cards to consider for combos. Sliver Queen, Basal Sliver, Lavabelly Sliver, Hibernation Sliver, The First Sliver, Gemhide Sliver, Manaweft Sliver, Heart Sliver, Cloudshredder Sliver, Firewake Sliver, Darkheart Sliver, Cautery Sliver, Sliver Overlord, Homing Sliver, Mana Echoes, Intruder Alarm, Faces of the Past.

Support Cards: The most important cards to protect your combos. Crystalline Sliver, Root Sliver, Sliver Hivelord, Quick Sliver, Ward Sliver, Force of Will, Patriarch's Bidding.

@ TheChanesaw,

Nope. As lovely as Sliver Gravemother is, she doesn't really work as one of the 99. Her themes are so unique that I feel compelled to make her the head of her own deck with Myriad and Encore subthemes shored up with End of Turn effects. The idea is to abuse the End of Turn step by routinely clearing the stack when it has the Sacrifice trigger hit at the end of combat (in Myriad's case) or end step (in Encore's case). The best part is when multiple copies of Sliver Legion or The First Sliver are on the battlefield alongside Gravemother resulting in a very fun and powerful play experience - I hope anyway. I'm starting to assemble a list, and will attempt to make a fun budget oriented Sliver deck.

so why no The First Sliver? seems like itd speed up the clock with free slivers.

If you’re just looking for cascade then stuff like Shardless Agent and Violent Outburst are probably what you’re after - they’re the “tried and true” enablers for cheating out manaless cards like Living End.

If you’re instead referring to a combo effect that lets you win the game on the spot, The First Sliver might be what you’re after. The deck is quite gimmicky but seems reasonably powered - though its not cheap and there’s almost no wiggle room as far as a lot if these cards are required for it to function. Article/list here

Side note: I don’t think Imoti is even close to viable/playable even if it were modern legal. Even decks with dedicated ramp can’t justify more than a few high-mana cards (and you’d just be cascading into more ramp, which by that stage you don’t need, so its pointless). Card seems super weak/bad imo.
