Gift of Immortality
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
When enchanted creature dies, return that card to the battlefield under it’s owner’s control. Return Gift of Immortality to the battlefield attached to that creature at the beginning of the next end step.

May 3, 2024, I started a new quest. Having built 52 decks, I endeavoured to play them all, in roughly the same order as I created them. July 26
Everybody Hates Zedruu Won, record goes to 17 - 22 -1.Thieves' Auction let me draw 17ish cards with Zedruu over a couple turns. Drew into Felidar Guardian and Saheeli Rai after a couple turns. Well, that wins the game. Had Gift of Immortality plus Tragic Arrogance, which killed 2 of Mira's Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Detention Sphere got the remaining Sakashima of a Thousand Faces "Ulamog." Win percentage goes to .436

I continued to dig for cards both old and news, that are not listed here but could fit:
-
Gift of Immortality : This card has lot of potential, i think this card has been glanced over because if you're not careful you don't realize it's every end step and not only yours. Even if used on a one mana afterlife 1 fodder, in a turn rotation of a 4 players game it would already have payed for itself (4 recursion of 1 mana creatures for 3 mana). In this deck it's like a better version of Ophiomancer. Others awesome targets would be Market Gnome, Ranger-Captain of Eos, Elenda, the Dusk Rose, Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Kokusho, the Evening Star (for those that play it like me). Or can be used as a protection for sacrifice engine, a draw engine, a blood artist effect or Teysa. With flash or an ability to chose of make it comeback to your hand instead of attached to the creature i think it would be a no brainer.
-
Crowded Crypt : both a ramp and a payoff cards, with Teysa and a one mana afterlife 1 fodder it's already 6 corpse counter on the Crowded Crypt, a few other sacrifice and it's a winning condition. I know it's a 3 mana ramps but it's very fitting in this deck and a ramp.
-
Bartolome del Presidio: another free sacrifice engine for 2 manas, but personnally i would prefer using Warren Soultrader and Viscera Seer.
-
Reliquary Monk: An interesting removal, i almost find it better than Cathar Commando since with Teysa it's a double removal. Of course the downside are the 3 mana cost that can't be splitted over time like Cathar and flash missing.
-
Funeral Room / Awakening Hall: another blood artist effect, with a recursion ability later, but you already haven't included The Meathook Massacre. Personnally i'm almost at a point where i'm ready to remove Blood Artist since it's the last effect that target a single player instead of dealing damage to each opponents, it's only upside is that it also work with opponent creatures dying.
-
Kambal, Profiteering Mayor: It's a mix of Corpse Knight and token making. I'm not a fan of "this ability triggers only once each turn" and "one or more token" instead of "a token". Although a lot of people include it in their lists, i have mixed feeling about this card.
-
High-Society Hunter : a better Grim Haruspex since it also work for other players but still 5 manas, i would not include it.

feeling suspicious of Bartolome del Presidio and Gift of Immortality, are they just for suntitan combo? you have way less support for combos so it seems hard to assemble and those 2 pieces alone are kinda mid. 3 blood artists, 2 free sacs, 2 enchantments, and 1 sunny T seems tough to get a combo assembled w/ no tutors, so leaning into cards that are only good with your sun titan seems iffy to me.
Scorn-Blade Berserker seems like an alesha holdover
Resourceful Defense seems win-more
Ratadrabik of Urborg is questionable to me, i feel like you're mostly not saccing legends, but instead saccing your fodder
Alharu, Solemn Ritualist is a lil expensive as you have 16x token generators and I feel like that's your sac fodder.
ever 2 or less color black deck luvs Nihil Spellbomb
You might enjoy some combination of the Feign Death, Malakir Rebirth Flip, Not Dead After All, Undying Malice effects

It's not a bad list at all, but if you want to go with vampires plus lifegain subtheme there are better choices of commanders (Astarion, the Decadent, Amalia Benavides Aguirre, Vona, Butcher of Magan, Elenda, the Dusk Rose, and Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher are solid options. There are tons of other good options too).
If you're heart-set on Athreos, I would drop the vampire/lifegain themes and go with creatures that have sac effects (e.g. Westfold Rider, Cathar Commando, Bounty Agent, Priest of Fell Rites, Stronghold Assassin, Necrotic Sliver, Burnished Hart, Dauthi Voidwalker) plus cards with reanimation abilities (e.g. Bishop of Rebirth, Celestine, the Living Saint, Custodi Soulcaller, Redemption Choir, Sun Titan, Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher, Athreos, Shroud-Veiled, Breathkeeper Seraph, Court of Ardenvale, Gift of Immortality).

Man this commander is so crazy. Seems like you'll need a lot of dry-erase cards to write up aura tokens haha. Anyway these would be my swaps:
Grim Reaper's Sprint -> Hope Against Hope
Reconnaissance -> Born to Drive
Swiftfoot Boots -> Mantle of Leadership
Armored Skyhunter -> Cartouche of Solidarity
Nomad Mythmaker -> Nurturing Presence
Mesa Enchantress -> Valor of the Worthy
Wyleth, Soul of Steel -> Squire's Devotion
Tiana, Ship's Caretaker -> Archon of Sun's Grace
Sphere of Safety -> Ajani's Chosen
Unquenchable Fury -> Boon of the Spirit Realm
Sigarda's Aid -> Forgeborn Oreads
Angelic Destiny -> Pious Wayfarer
Court of Ardenvale -> Knight of Doves
Kellan, the Fae-Blooded -> Akki Ember-Keeper
Cass, Hand of Vengeance -> Gift of Wrath
Danitha Capashen, Paragon -> Breath of Fury
Here are some other considerations: Shifting Shadow, Gift of Immortality, Splinter Twin, Soul-Strike Technique
SaberTech on Zurtron
1 year ago
If you are going for a Voltron style of Zur there are a few auras that are often seen in those sorts of lists:
- Diplomatic Immunity protects Zur and itself from targeted removal. Zur's ability can put more auras on himself even if he has Shroud because auras that are put into play by a spell or ability don't target.
- Shielded by Faith is better than Gift of Immortality because you don't want Zur to actually die and lose his auras.
- Steel of the Godhead
- Daybreak Coronet
Darksteel Mutation and Oubliette complement Imprisoned in the Moon as ways that neutralize commanders. They make it difficult for your opponents to immediately get their commanders back to recast if they don't have enchantment removal. Darksteel Mutation is much better than Kasmina's Transmutation because the indestructible that the Mutation gives means that the enchanted commander will live through a board wipe and not go back to its owner's command zone. Oubliette could replace Pendrell Flux.
There's a bit of a call to make between Flaming Fist and Battle Mastery. Flaming Fist won't trigger the turn Zur puts it into play because Zur will have already been declared as attacking at that point. However, Flaming Fist does stick around if Zur happens to die since it's not an aura. Battle Mastery will let Zur hit with double strike the turn it enters but dies with Zur. It's a call to make depending on how aggressive you want to be. Duelist's Heritage is also generally better than Flaming Fist but not if Zur has shroud from a card like Diplomatic Immunity, so that depends on what auras you choose to run in the end.
If you aren't running Stony Silence as a silver bullet to shut down opponents' artifacts then it could be worth considering Nettlecyst as another creature/pump effect in the deck, even if Zur can't tutor it up. It could potentially replace Gray Merchant of Asphodel since the current list doesn't look that geared to reliably get a big hit off the Merchant's ability.
One of Zur's biggest strengths though is that he can tutor up Necropotence, so that's a card you should aim to add as soon as you can get your hands on one.
Rest in Peace is a strong card for messing with decks that utilize the graveyard.
Back to Basics can punish decks with greedy mana bases.
Stroke of Midnight is better than Expose to Daylight.
Seal of Cleansing or Aura of Silence are targets for Zur to tutor up to get rid of enchantments and artifacts.
Sevinne's Reclamation and/or Sun Titan could be worth considering for getting key permanent cards back from your graveyard.
