Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

Legendary Creature — God

Trample (This creature can deal excess combat damage to the player, planeswalker or battle this is attacking if lethal combat damage would be dealt to all blocking creatures.)

If a red source you control would deal an amount of noncombat damage less than this creature's power to an opponent, that source deals damage equal to this creature's power instead.

When Ojer Axonil dies, return this to the battlefield transformed under the control of this creature's owner.

Blim lost again, at least its sixth loss in a row, this time to Jesse's Will Kenrith and Rowan Kenrith. I had a Hail Mary top deck off Immortal Coil pay off: Disrupt Decorum. I attacked and gave the coil to Francois, who had put us all to 1 with Master of Cruelties. Anyway, he chose to boardwipe with Toxic Deluge rather than killing anyone else or even attacking Jesse's planeswalkers, which handily killed us with a Rowan Kenrith ultimate and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip out and finding a Flame Fusillade for the kill shot.

Lightning-Rig Crew deals 4 damage to each opponent and Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph doesn't get to do anything.

In this situation, no one has a choice of the order to apply things. That's because Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip and Ghyrson Starn use different kinds of abilities that are handled by the rules in separate, specific ways. Ghyrson Starn has a triggered ability, which you can tell by it starting with one of the words "when", "whenever" or "at". Ojer Axonil has a static ability with a replacement effect, which you can tell by the use of one or more of the words "as", "with" or "instead"

A replacement effect modifies an event as it happens and triggered abilities trigger after an event happens. In this example Ojer Axonil sees your Crew is about to deal less than 4 damage to an opponent and replaces the result with 4 damage instead. Ghyrson Starn's triggered ability watches for an event where exactly 1 damage is dealt, but that's not what happened here, so it doesn't trigger.

I am playing Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph as my Commander. I have Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip in play. I tap Lightning-Rig Crew to do one damage to each opponent. In what order do things happen? Does Lightning-Rig Crew's one damage trigger Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph, who would then do two damage to all opponents, except that Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip would turn that two into four? Or would Lightning-Rig Crew immediately deal four damage to the opponents, thereby negating the Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph ability? Who gets to choose when these triggers happen? I know you all have answered other questions regarding Ghyrson, but I couldn't find anything that would answer this for me.

Cards you might consider adding:

Festival of Embers: Good late game not so great early...

Electrickery: Instant speed board wipe...

Storm-Kiln Artist or Urabrask  Flip better than some of the rituals, mana and Urabrask does damage

Erebor Flamesmith

Return the Favor Another deflecting swat type effect

Valakut Awakening  Flip Replace a land with, free wheel if needed

Starstorm Good board wipe finish if you side is about to get exiled

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip good damage ramp option turn 1/2 into 4 damage

Wail of the Nim protection and board wipe...

Spikefield Hazard  Flip replace a basic land for

Malakir Rebirth  Flip protection for commander, could replace basic land for

Fell the Profane  Flip: Target remove or a land when you need it

Shatterskull Smashing  Flip another land/spell you could add

Aetherflux Reservoir Finisher maybe?

Goblin Bombardment: consider in addition to or as a replacement for impact tremors

Vampiric Rites: More consistent card draw maybe?

Hi Hybrow, thx for your upvote. For sure, I will include Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip and I will replace Snake Basket with Song of Totentanz.

I love a Purphy deck. He is my first love, even above my volo deck. The Fat Red Line - Purphoros EDH

I am a stats nerd, so I have custom sorted everything by potential ETB damage. You can then see if something that costs 6CMC, but only gives 4ETB damage is worth keeping or scrapping

For instance, I have found that Empty the Warrens was not worth the CMC, with the low CMC and speed of this deck, you cant guarentee the Storm side of it, so its usually 4 for 4. A good trade out might be Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip, does 4 damage automatically and can be brought back if dies.

I dont know how heavily you are leaning into Goblins, but may want to consider Spawn-Gang Commander for Siege-Gang Commander. Straight trade that can then be used for mana.

Also, Song of Totentanz might be a good trade out for Snake Basket

Good luck not being the target of your friend group when you play this deck :)

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip is an auto include in your deck

Burn decks tends to quickly run out of gas, red being a very fast color. You should reduce your number of land a bit and run a lot of MDFC that will count as a land. Lands are your worst enemy when you try to draw your last burn spell.

Birgi, God of Storytelling  Flip is a nice way to recycle your land with its artifact back Harnfel, Horn of Bounty  Flip

Anyway, I love this brew and enjoy playing the game !

OUT: Guardian Scalelord

IN: Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip

Trading out the Scalelord (since it's never really helped) for Ojer Axonil to hopefully scale up some of my laser beams.
