My daughter recently had a catastrophic failure with her BMW X1. Being in the car business, all auto related things be they positive or negative full squarely in my lap. The closest dealer to her is Open Road in Edison which is where the car was towed. Again, being in the car business my bar for customer satisfaction is set rather high.
Enter Service Manager Tony Martin. If you need BMW service and haven't met him, you really should. Old school, professional service combined with him being a hell of a nice guy make the service experience there pleasant and painless. Same with sales. Speaking as someone who's been in the car business for the better part of 20 years, this is the place to go. Kudos and much thanks!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 2 - Nikolas M.Morganville, Marlboro Township, NJ050Jul 11, 2024
I recently purchased a brand-new 2025 M4 Competition from this dealership, only to encounter a transmission failure after a mere 4000 miles. Despite BMW's refusal to honor the warranty, I'm deeply disappointed by the reliability of this supposed "performance" car. I am currently in discussions with corporate in hopes of resolving this issue. However, if they do not cover it, I regret to say that I will never purchase another BMW again.
My attempts to resolve this with the dealer were met with discourtesy. The service manager rudely informed me that there was nothing he could do and that I was on my own. The sales manager was equally unhelpful, offering little more than a dismissive apology. As a loyal customer who has spent over $185,000 at this dealership in the last two years alone, I find their lack of desire to assist me in resolving this issue shameful. I am now considering refinancing my loan with a different lender and severing ties with BMW entirely. Such a disappointing experience has left me with no desire to continue my association with the brand.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mohammad J.Edison, NJ010Aug 27, 2024
I own a BMW X3 d28 diesel, and for a few months, the check engine light had been intermittently coming on. My son, a BMW enthusiast, used his OBD reader to diagnose the issue, which turned out to be faulty NOX sensors. Fortunately, these sensors are covered up to 120K miles, and my car had about 118K miles at the time.
I took my car to OpenRoad BMW on a Friday in July to get it fixed. I picked it up the next day, Saturday. However, as I was driving home and making a few stops along the way, the check engine light came back on. It was too late to return to the dealership, so I scheduled another appointment for Monday.
Later that afternoon, I noticed that my car was leaking DEF fluid (used in diesel cars for emission control) all over my driveway. On Monday, I called OpenRoad BMW and explained the issue to an agent, who booked an appointment for Wednesday morning. I also requested a loaner car as I had an important doctor's appointment that day.
When I took the car back on Wednesday, I informed the service advisor Alex about the DEF leak. Without even inspecting the car, he claimed that the issue was unrelated to their previous work, as the DEF system is not located near the NOX sensors. He also mentioned that diesel BMWs often develop various issues after 100K miles. Another advisor standing nearby supported his colleague's statement without looking at the car, which left me completely flabbergasted.
I insisted that they at least inspect the issue before jumping to conclusions. Alex said it would cost $538 to diagnose the problem, as they charge for two hours of labor for diesel vehicles. I was taken aback and asked for some time to think. While discussing the situation with my wife, Alex returned and offered to take a quick look, stating that if a detailed inspection was needed, they would charge me for one hour of labor. I agreed, as I was convinced the issue was related to their previous work.
Then, I received a text message from OpenRoad stating that they would charge me $1,404 to fix the DEF fluid leak. I could not believe my eyes. I called Alex and explained that this issue happened after they replaced the NOX sensors, so it seemed to me that something went wrong during the repair. Alex would not listen to me, so I told him I was coming to pick up my car. I did not want any repair to be done by OpenRoad because I had completely lost my trust and confidence in them.
A few days later, my son looked at the leak and discovered that OpenRoad had broken the plastic inlet on the DEF injector. Also, the DEF injector is located right next to one of the NOX sensors and it has to be removed for replacing the NOX sensor. So Alex's assertion the issue was not close to where OpenRoad did the NOX replacement was completely false.
Overall, my experience with OpenRoad BMW was extremely disappointing. The initial handling of my concerns was dismissive and unprofessional, and the lack of a loaner car added to the frustration. These people are hopeless. Their prices are through the roof and shenanigans are part of their business model. I would recommend finding a different dealership for a better experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Imran M.San Francisco, CA010Jul 27, 2024
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Open Road BMW of Edison. On June 22nd, I reached out about a 2025 BMW M4 in Skyscrapper Gray. Avneet Soni, the sales representative, told me that the delivery wouldn't be until July. Two days later, on June 24th, I found a similar car in Houston and asked for a refund of my $1000 deposit. Avneet told me he would get back to me the next day.
Instead of responding, he got back to me a week later and offered a black M3 instead. He then told me that the company policy allows refunds only within 7 days, even though I requested a refund within just 2 days. This delay was clearly a tactic to retain my deposit.
I never signed any written terms or conditions stating that the deposit was non-refundable. Avneet did not inform me of this policy over text or phone, yet he claimed to have told a friend of mine. Well, who's buying the car, me or my friend??
I have documented the entire conversation and will be disputing this with my bank. The only application I submitted was for credit, which did not mention any deposit terms.
As a professional who does marketing for high-level enterprises, I promise this review is going to be posted on every local and global business directory where Open Road BMW of Edison is listed. Their unprofessionalism and unethical practices should be a warning to potential customers.
Save yourself the hassle and take your business elsewhere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rahul G.San Francisco, CA010May 14, 2024
My recent experience at the dealership was both frustrating and disappointing. After leaving my BMW M2 in their care, it was returned with significant scratches and marring of the paint. This occurred despite the fact that the car wash was neither requested nor authorized by me. During a discussion about the damage, the service manager, John Ladany, attempted to downplay the severity by remarking, "It's a seven-year-old car," and further questioned my automotive experience with demeaning comments such as, "I don't know if this is your first car" or "if you just started driving." This is not my first car, and I did not just start driving - if you need clarification @Open Road BMW.
I left my feedback on the survey I received in the email and then had my phone blown up by my service advisor who was in rage. When I got around to calling her back, she was rude and furiously cut the conversation short, and hung up. When I asked her about this, she said she spoke the words "bye bye" so it's fine that she hangs up on me while I am mid conversation.
They offered to take the car in and have the scratches buffed out, but the entire paint is marred and has swirls all over it. I don't know who is responsible for "buffing" my car, and if they have the same level of competence as the employees that wash my car with a broom...I might as well spray paint the car...
Hourly labor rate is ~$270. If you're out of warranty, I highly recommend calling other shops (even other BMW dealerships) as you'd probably be paying under $200 an hour at even the highest rated performance shops and other dealers.
In addition to scratching and damaging my paint, they proceeded to insult me and blow up my phone when I don't answer their phone calls promptly...
Then they charged 5 hours labor, meanwhile the tech sends me a video at 8:57 AM saying they brought it in for service that morning and just finished the job. I refuse to believe they open their service department at 4AM in the morning. They did not start the work the day before, as the tech in the video stated it came into their shop that morning.
I appreciated them providing me a loaner on short notice, though it smelled strange and was still dirty when I received it.
When I went to pick up my vehicle, it smelled like gasoline for a week - but I understand it may be difficult to avoid that when working on the fuel pump area.
When I looked at my car, there were brown dirty water spots all over the car and didn't think much of it until I noticed all the scratches.
Ultimately, due to the extensive damage and the dealership's handling of the situation, I have decided to have the paint corrected at my own expense. This entire ordeal has underscored the need for better communication and greater respect for customer property and concerns.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Albert R.NJ, NJ020Sep 18, 2023
I bought a 2015 Golf GTI here took it off the lot and it was miss firing. The service department replaced the plugs and coils. Two weeks later same issue the car was sent to open road VW in Bridgewater on 8/25 where they replaced the coils again. 9/17 same issue back at VW dealer this time it needs new injectors and a carbon cleaning 3K in me nothing from the dealer even though they sold me a bad car.

I've been here a couple times already and I've spoken with Brian. He's hard to miss because he has a British accent. This guy has been contacting me since the day he knew I was looking for a car. I've been holding out since last year September when we first spoke for a c300- 2022 :-(. He has been super patient with me and he is very witty. We constantly go back and forth over my choices and of course BMW has been my second choice. The good thing is I have seen Brian sell cars like he's selling candy. He is relentless when it comes to gaining your business. I love the x-4 but I dislike M class models. I don't care for all that stitching. I'd prefer luxury over sport. I'm just saying. He can order whatever car you'd prefer but it takes 6 weeks.

If I could give them zero stars I would. I had dropped off my vehicle on Tuesday 10am with them and had a shuttle back to my home. My drop off was by appt. 32 hrs had passed prior to me hearing anything regarding my vehicle. I had called three times to not be assisted. I should preface that I brought my car in due to drive train light turning on but then turning off within 5 hrs. Once someone finally got back to me to let me know that they STILL didn't know what was wrong with my vehicle yet sent me a once over video exclaiming everything looked good with my vehicle: I was very upset because they mentioned doing a diagnosis by hooking my car up to the machine. Now full 49 hrs has passed and still no communication, I finally get a text from the person overseeing my vehicle for her to tell me they aren't sure fully but assume it's the timing chain and labor alone will be $10,000. I'm infuriated at this point because I'm still not getting a solid answer yet being told POTENTIALLY how much labor would be: I told them to release my vehicle I'll head to pick it up. I pay $300 for a diagnostic fee of which I feel is RIDICULOUS and should be reimbursed. I not only take my vehicle to a bmw specialist in West field for them to review my vehile, mention I just needed a proper oil change and the oil chamber reservoir to be replaced $700 and that was it! BMW of Edison are COMPLETE rip offs, and I will repost this on all feedback and review forums.

Mathias was great! My husband and I came to Open Road BMW on a Saturday evening to see our options for an upgrade. We wanted to stay with our BMW family, so it was great that Mathias could help us stay within a reasonable budget for our new 2022 purchase. We couldn't be happier with the customer service and our brand new car. I would def recommend Open Road BMW to anyone looking for a new car.
