Always excellent, always crowded. And some of the best pancakes I've ever had. We've only been for breakfast. I have a feeling lunch will be just as good--if you can get a seat.

Cute diner on East Main!
Came here on Tuesday morning around 11am and was seated within just a few minutes.
This western-decked out diner, definitely lets you know you are in the Midwest. When we were seated, our waitress came immediately and gave us the run down. We ordered a veggie omelet, breakfast sandwich (huge biscuit) and hot cake special. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I ordered the hot cakes so I will speak on that. It's a nice size pancake that was pretty delicious. It came with eggs and bacon (for my sister).
Overall, pretty solid breakfast with friendly service. (We parked on the street, by the way.)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 13, 2024
I was visiting a friend in Bozeman. We decided to go out for breakfast, and specifically for biscuits and gravy, which is something we like to share. My friend found Western Cafe, so we decided to try it.
The sign outside said that the restaurant had been there for over 100 years, under 2 different names. It's been the Western Cafe since the 1950s. Inside, it was just as, well, Western, as a Midwestern person would expect: lots of pictures of cowboys, horses and such, and lots and lots of wood. I loved it!
We went there on a Thursday morning. We were a little concerned when the wait was 20 minutes, as we had some appointments later in the day. But, I'm pretty sure that we waited less than that.
When we were seated, our server came immediately. We ordered the B n G special -- eggs, biscuits & gravy and meat. We also got a side of hash browns.
Our order came out quickly. The biscuits were HUGE, as was the platter of hashbrowns. The sausage was obviously house-made and was delicious. The hashbrowns were fine, but I didn't think they were anything special. I was also amused by the tin cup that my friend's drink came in.
The only real downside is that there are 3 very steep steps as soon as you open the door, so anybody with mobility issues would probably have a problem getting inside.
I almost wish we hadn't gone there because I will now be craving those biscuits and I have no way to get them in Michigan!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 2 - Mark J.Hiram, MEJan 3, 2025
What a solid meal. Everything was cooked perfectly. The sausage was a particular treat!

Western Cafe did not disappoint. The breakfast I got was big, affordable, cooked well, and was clearly superior to any other diner food. They make ya feel both at home, and like you're stepping back in time. You can tell people have been coming here for a long while, and not just from the cliental and decor. The whole vibe fits with the meal and it truly seems to be one of the most special eateries in town.

Food was great. Atmosphere fun. But the highlight was Amy, who was kind enough to serve us with energy and interest. Thanks, Amy

Owners grandson/waiter was a d-bag. Should be in another line of work with no interaction with humans.. Pancakes were overcooked. Better food elsewhere.

Very busy, small and cozy, no nonsense service. Parking on the street. We ordered special of the day/week/all the time(?) bobcat breakfast, and chicken fried steak. Portion is HUGE! We requested sausage with our bobcat, it was pretty salty, cinnamon roll French toast is a bit too dense for me. Chicken fried steak is great. It really is bottomless coffee! They prefer cash, credit/debit payment will cost you extra.

The breakfast here was good. It's decorated cute and is bigger than you would think from the outside. Everyone was friendly. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It's evident biscuits are made and not reheated though before they are served. Mine was cold and the gravy was warm. It had a delicious taste I just wish it was served hot.

I was hoping for a coffee shop but Western Cafe held up to its name and is indeed a cafe. So instead of coffee and a couple of hours of wifi, I had coffee and a fantastic omelet and enjoyed my breakfast.
Super service from a friendly waitress and a delicious large omelet with a big pile of potatoes. There's no Waffle House out here in Montana, so we'll just make do with what we have. Yum!
