Huey and cry

Huey Morgan's snide twitterage aimed at Lauren Laverne was well-documented yesterday. Obviously, the gentle riposte from Laverne pointing out that, in effect, far from not programming her 6Music show, it's actually more that Morgan isn't trusted or thought capable of putting together a daytime show was a highlight, but this is the bit where Morgan really stepped over the line:

Fuck that shit. Kenickie? Please.
Really, Morgan? You're going there? Appealing that the Fun Loving Criminals somehow outranks Kenickie in terms of quality?

You're suggesting that, on some sort of scale in your head, Scooby Snacks is better than Punka?

Pfffft.

6Music cuts Freakzone again

If you were trying to annoy the campaigners keen to keep 6Music on the air, you could do worse than chopping another half-hour off the Freakzone and giving it to, erm, Huey Morgan.

Huey - who also presents pet programmes for Channel Five - is being rewarded for... uh, um... something. He's being described as "award-winning", after coming third in a category at the Sonys earlier this year.

It's part of a not entirely disastrous reworking of Sundays - Cerys is back, Jarvis is still there, and there's a potentially self-indulgent two-hour Adam Buxton themed music chat show.

The new Sundays:

7.00-10.00am: George Lamb
10.00-12.00pm: Cerys Matthews
12.00pm -2.00pm: Adam Buxton's Big Mix Tape
2.00-4.00pm: Huey Morgan
4.00-6.00pm: Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service
6.00-8.00pm: Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone
8.00-10.00pm: 6 Mix
10.00pm-12.00midnight: Guy Garvey's Finest Hour
12.00midnight-1.00am: Don Letts' Culture Clash Radio

Dave Pearce has been shoved off to Saturday nights.

Sony Awards: Freak Zone up for the cup

The Sony Radio Awards is one of the few meaningful awards ceremonies which manages to nominate surprising and deserving entrants most years.

So it's brilliant to see that Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone has been given a consideration for Specialist Music Show, especially in a year when it's had half an hour cut off its time to make room for Huey Fun Loving Criminal's show.

Although that gets a nomination, too, in best music show. Where - oh wonders of irony - he's up against Maconie and Radcliffe's Radcliffe And Maconie show. And then Radcliffe is fighting Maconie for Music Broadcaster Of The Year.

Shaun Keavney and Chris Moyles are both nominated for best breakfast, though: presumably the judges like to sleep in.

These are those nominations, in full, like:

Scooby snacks

Last night, we reeling from Bill Buckley's mighty-long-way-down from co-host of That's Life to turning up as a wannabe "house dresser" on Anne Maurice's Apprentice-meets-property show Interior Rivalry. Why did they call it that? It's not like the contestants are fighting internal problems, like John Hurt in Alien. If it had been up to us, we'd have called it Interior Designates. (If you're wondering, house dresser is one of those non-jobs which is, effectively, being a drive-by designer.)

This meant we missed the jaw-dropping reality TV moment of the week, but thankfully Sweeping The Nation was alert:

[W]e found a piece about BBC2's latest ignored reality series The Underdog Show which stopped us dead in our tracks.

Huey from the Fun Lovin' Criminals is in it.

As Simon T points out, that's quite a fall from grace from being part of a band that was once so cool we imagine Tyler Brulee would buy their records to pottering about on BBC2 in the middle of a programme which can only have been pitched as Barbara Woodhouse meets Celebrity Fit Club.

We can't help but wonder if this is some sort of revenge from the BBC for Huey's "Michael Jackson fucks children" outburst on Liquid News a few years back.

Live television: it can blow up in your face

For some reason, BBC Choice's Liquid News is extended to an hour to promote a rival channel's awards - it being the MTV Europe awards. The useless bloke is by the red carpet when he spies Huey from the Fun Loving Criminals.

-Huey, you're live on the BBC

Huey approaches the camera, fixes us at home with a steely gaze and announces:
-Michael Jackson fucks children

Huey turns and walks away.

Much flustered apologising because its "Live TV and there was nothing we could do."

Heard of a seven-second delay, dingbats?
