Muscatine is a city in and the county seat of Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. The population was 23,797 at the 2020 census.

The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Muscatine from 1903 until 1985, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern. The name Muscatine is believed by some to be named after the Mascouten native American tribe.

  • I canvassed door-to-door in Iowa during January, 2008 and was impressed with the warm, friendly greetings I received, even from those who did not agree with my ideology. However, Muscatine was the one town where I encountered nothing but rudeness and vitriol from the vast majority of houses I visited.
