  • Saniv Bhat seems to be carried by some wrong information about Billavas. He is very much biassed in his comments. Sri Narayan Guru never did the toddy tapping. Moreover there is nothing like dirty job and neat job. Toddy tapping is 'extracting the juice'(Neera) from tender bunches of coconut trees. Fresh from the trees this particular juice is a very healthy drink. However like any fruit juice, toddy also gets fermented as the time passes by and it becomes intoxicating drink known as toddy. Poor farmers and other labourers do consume this as it has all the ingradients for healthy upkeep.And anything consumed beyond a certain limit becomes poison. And so is toddy. Toddy is also used as a fermenting agent like yeast for preparing soft 'Idlis' and 'Dosas'. If however Mr. Sanjiv Bhat wants to know more about this he is welcome to conatct me on 9845692489.
  • I wonder whether langoo is an Indian! He seems to be very much unaware of what is a 'temple' and what is a 'brothel'. Sri Narayana Guru had an unique way of helping the oppressed farmers of Kerala. Billavas of undevided Dakshina Kannada District are a hard working farmers who were eqully good in local(native) medicines and that is why they are known as 'Baidyas". Billu means arrow (of bow and arrow). Billavas were very good in archary they were also called 'Billavas". Other than the Brahmins(Bhats), Billavas are the only community performing "pooja" rituals in temples and other worship centres and that is why they are known as 'Poojary".
