Native to tropical Africa, blue glory bower is a sprawling evergreen shrub with a weak upright habit. It grows to 6-10’ tall in its native habitat, but more typically grows 2-4’ tall in containers in the St. Louis area. It is sometimes commonly called butterfly bush (though totally unrelated to Buddleja) because its bicolored light blue/violet flowers with long protruding purple stamens purportedly resemble butterflies in flight. Blooms in late summer to fall. Elliptic to narrow obovate glossy dark green leaves (to 4” long).
