A Gift For My Sister

My sister has a Fall birthday and her house is our gathering place. This little painting is for her birthday.

The painting is 7"x5" and I did it on a wood sign purchased on clearance from Kohls. I bought a bunch of these box signs and painted them with first white, then black gesso. And they made a great painting surface! I like finding new uses for things and finding inexpensive things to paint on!
Here's an edge view of this painting so you can see how thick the sides are.

Thanksgiving Owls

I made these for my cute nieces and for myself and a friend. Just wood pieces, paper, bottle caps and google eyes.

Flower Turkeys

Yesterday on her day off of school, my daughter had some cute friends over. We had a crafting day. We made flower turkeys. (We first saw the idea on Our Best Bites and it's also on Crafting in the Rain).

These are quick, easy and really cute. Minimal supplies needed. You may even have all or most of them around your house right now. We glued ours onto clothespins or hair clips.

I have LOTS of silk flowers lying around from when we made a bunch of hair flowers. So I was thrilled to find a new and oh so clever use for them.

A Re-Make without a Before Picture :(

These used to be a garish orange with green polka dots or stripes--I can't remember. (I didn't take a before picture, but trust me, they were ugly.) I got them from Hobby Lobby years ago.

Last year I primed them and never got around to finishing them. The other day I pulled them back out and got to work. I am so happy with the result!

Basically, I painted them black to paint down their original color and to create a good base coat. I then painted them with an uneven coat of white, then distressed them by scraping some of the white paint down to the black and also by hammering some nail holes into the surface of the wood. I also did some image transfer onto them. Then I painted them a soft fall orange and added stamps, stripes, circles and pencil marks. I then added some brown paint to distress the ridges and edges. I also painted the stems brown and twisted some thin wire around them.

I think I'll keep them out through Thanksgiving.

Some Fun Thankgiving Projects

Small Give Thanks Blocks (SOLD)

Large FALL Blocks

I made a set of these for each of my sisters. When I asked them what they wanted for Christmas, they both said they had enough Christmas stuff, but needed some Thanksgiving or Fall decorations. So they each got their Christmas presents this week. :)

I also made a Blessings Book for each of them. I thought we could start a tradition of writing down what everyone is thankful for each year--sort of a Thanksgiving journal. These were made on Composition Books. I just love to alter them.

Below are two I did for myself. See I can't stop making them! :)
