The Deck
When Feather became the Boros guildmaster, she was challenged by Aurelia, thrown in prison, and later freed by Krenko. It's now the time to redeem herself, it's red dead redemption. This is my take on Feather, the Redeemed centered around a control/voltron Sunforger shell with hatebear support. The deck operates on the buyback value of Feather and the power of the Sunforger to either gaining card advantage, using various forms of removals like Reckless Rage ad nauseam, and providing continuous board protection while pressuring my opponent with the threat of commander damage. Because the deck is pretty mana color intensive, my mana rocks mostly tap for colored sources and are costed to be less than Feather. This allows me the option to cast Feather early and refill my hand quickly with cantrips.
Piloting Feather
The following are the rule of thumbs I use to pilot Feather effectively:
- Mulligan aggressively to get a hand that has at least 3 lands and/or ramp as well as protection (as a bonus). This is because this deck is mana hungry and you want as many mana sources early game as possible. Never keep risky hands.
- Only cast Feather if I have some form of protection available immediately.
- Only cast Feather if I have a way to get immediate value and sufficient ramp to cast her again if she gets removed.
- It's almost never wrong to tutor for Sunforger whenever possible and equip it to any available creatures first before deploying Feather. This is because Sunforger is essentially a multipurpose protection equipment that will ensure Feather sticks.
- It is alright to cast spells as a one time use on creatures without Feather in order to dig for protection before deploying her. The spells could be recoup later with Sunforger + Mistveil Plains .
Notable Synergies
- Token generator (e.g. Young Pyromancer ) + Feather, the Redeemed = Path to Exile for ramp, Swords to Plowshares for life gain, and Generous Gift to turn 1/1 into 3/3 tokens.
- Sunforger + Magnetic Theft + Feather, the Redeemed = Activating Sunforger and re-equipping Feather once per turn for a low cost of .
- Sunforger + Mistveil Plains = Reuse any Sunforger targets by putting the spell back with Mistveil Plains (can be tutored with Tithe or fetches like Flooded Strand ).
- Teferi's Protection + Pull from Eternity = Get to use Teferi's Protection once every other turn with Sunforger + Mistveil Plains .
Win Conditions
The main win condition for this deck is simply commander damage. The damage usually racks up pretty fast and my opponents are unable to power through my lock on the game with sunforger and hatebears.
