Dakmor Salvage

Land

Dakmor Salvage enters the battlefield tapped.

: Add .

Dredge 2 (If you would draw a card, instead you may put exactly two cards from the top of your library into your graveyard. If you do, return this card from your graveyard to your hand. Otherwise, draw a card.)

Huh, I didn't realize Dark Ritual had gone up that much, but that makes sense. It's a very good card in decks that have explosive uses for it. As was mentioned, you might find it for cheap, I got most of mine when I bought some cards from people I knew (stuff that had rotated out for example). While I got a lot of stuff like this I also got a handful of Dark Rituals! I hope you can find some, they're a really amazing Legacy card, and they cost next to nothing.

Since I don't have anywhere to practice Legacy play atm, I often test decks people post vs stuff I've homebrewed. When I was testing this vs my Pox deck (it's a midrangey Control list that can be incredibly slow) it was a big issue if your deck couldn't reanimate Armada Wurm, that second body is a real hassle in Legacy, where people rarely use wipes. Many decks can pass a single removal check, but two of them can be crippling, and being able to do this each time you reanimate an Armada Wurm played well. Roar was a convenient card relatively early, a 6/6 vanilla is still a must answer threat IMHO, and 3G from your graveyard for it seems playable (it outclasses my Pox deck's various 5/5s). Vs my Affinity deck you were just way too slow to compete (the answer would probably be to run Serenity, Seeds of Innocence, or Force of Vigor, and you'd put them in a sideboard I think), that's why I felt some ramp might help, if you can cast a 4 drop a turn early it'll feel quite good.

As for what to pull, I feel like you should leave at least 1 Armada Wurm, and I'd hate to see Roar go if you add Augur of Skulls, the main problem with Roar seems to be that card sucks to draw early/have in your opener, Augur gives you a way to bin it. Anyways, Rite is one of the worse reanimation options, it's hard to cast either way, and it's pretty bad to mill, so I could see you cutting it (I've seen people use Dread Return like Balaam mentions, it's even got Flashback fwiw). I really don't like Boneyard Wurm very much in practice, if you have it early it'll be bad value for mana, and late game it's still just a vanilla beater, I'd play Ornithopter over that.

This is a bit random, while I'm pretty confident most Dredge stuff wouldn't make sense in here, I do wonder about Dakmor Salvage? It's not a fantastic card, but if you can mill it you can mill more cards to 'draw' it? It's an ETB tapped land so it could hurt you later game a bit, but this deck felt like one that could fit a tapped land into it's curve. Maybe try x1 or x2 in place of swamps?

Hi there,

I too have a Dredge deck and thought I would offer my 2 pence worth (for what its worth lol).

So there is a couple dredge cards you may be missing, or may have considered and not put in.

  1. Life from the Loam
  2. Golgari Thug
  3. Stinkweed Imp
  4. Golgari Grave-Troll

Especially think Life from the Loam would be a really good include as you are wanting their to be lands in your graveyard, but you may need them out.

May as well also go for the whole group of Cycling lands (like Tranquil Thicket) as you will be able to trigger draws, which then let you dredge more.

The card I use as a commander could work in your 99 - The Mycotyrant. Gives you tokens for putting permanents in your graveyard. (Here is my deck if you fancy a little look Fungus, Among'us - Mycotyrant Dredge/Descend.

With Dakmor Salvage, if you have The Gitrog Monster and Skirge Familiar you can essentially have infinite mana, as you discard the Salvage - in place of draw effect from Gitrog, Dredge Dakmor back to your hand netting 1 further card in your graveyard, and then can repeat as much as you wish.

Hope thats useful at least - And of course a thumbs up for 1. Being Golgari, and 2. Being Dredge

My default commander is muldratha and inturn I've collected tons of graveyard/etb/recursion effects to compliment. From Time Sieve with several enablers Pentavus Myr Battlesphere Thopter Assembly Encroaching Mycosynth & Unctus, Grand Metatect, Horseshoe Crab, Paradise Mantle, Viridian Longbow but I'd include combos like gitrog and Dakmor Salvage because they enable strong combos and can work in combination with other peices like Crystal Vein or Dryad Arbor . Slime foot was also one of my original homebrew ing commander's finding a handful of cheeky combos that allowed him to swing well above his projected power level as well being a utility peice for mid and drawn out games. Plus has become a wincon on its own on occasion. Beledros is listed mainly cause of his ability would just make him a automatic solid choice.

I both love the name, deck description and general vibe of this deck Crow, for degenerate Gitrog fun, may I suggest Dakmor Salvage?

Thanks for the feedback.

Riftsweeper is insurance against Dakmor Salvage being exiled. That's part two of the Gitrog engine allowing you to basically draw your deck with a discard outlet.

Triumph of the Hordes is there to make Ayula's Influence more potent without needing to go infinite first.

I agree with Ashnod's Altar coming out but Intent turns a manadork into what I need instead of a dork, so I'm less inclined to cut it.

I do think Dark Ritual and Spirit Guide are super aggressive and greedy - don't know if I must have it, our pod is fast but probably not that fast.

Yeah, Resevoir is there just to make Citadel go zoom, but it probably isn't necessary at all. They're just neat cards and I don't have a home for it yet, but I think you're right in pulling it out (and probably the pair of them frankly, I'll get them a new home).

All the discard stuff I'm loathe to cut - they enable the Dakmor/Gitrog bullshittery which is the core of the deck's draw engine.

rekkim I really appreciate the suggestions! The mana cost of those cards are just too high to be viable. I am very lucky to get more than 3 lands with this deck as most go to the graveyard and Dakmor Salvage is very slow. This deck works by being fast and aggressive.

Something with retrace? It works wonders in conjunction with Dakmor Salvage. Raven's Crime would be my first pick under normal circumstances, but despite a desperate dearth of interaction, I figure it might be better to run threats like Call the Skybreaker, Spitting Image or Worm Harvest because the rest of your non-permanent slots're dedicated to opening the combos.

Suggestions:

  1. Trim 2x Prismatic Vista or 2x Woodland Cemetery for 2x Boseiju, Who Endures. Most of your costs are single pip, so you don't need to fix as hard.
  2. Trim 1x Forest for 1x Swamp or 1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Either would be find, swamp is searchable off fetch, but you run two creatures with double black pips, and nothing with double green.
  3. Consider Life from the Loam & Dakmor Salvage package as recursive dredge. Loam also lets you abuse fetches to thin deck. Pairs nicely with Bloodghast.
