Oriental Rugs and Heavy Objects
I am highly against people putting heavy objects on their beautiful handmade oriental rugs, however many do so. We went to a customer's house today to pick up her rug for cleaning and repair and they had a very heavy glass plate coffee table on their Persian Rugs. I took 3 workers and we still had a hard time picking up the table. The disturbing part was once the table was removed. The spots on the rug where the table was put on was completely matted; the pile was greatly damaged. There were also many moths flying around and enjoying the wool piles. Where the table is heavy and it cannot be removed so underneath of it is vacuumed, is the perfect housing for moth.
Whenever we go to a customer's house and see heavy objects on their rugs, we highly recommend them to remove them so the rug can has less pressure to handle.

Dirtiest Rug for Cleaning in Los Angeles
A customer brought in a tufted rug for cleaning. It was a 3' by 8' runner full of moths, and stains. You could see the larvae and the eggs all over the rug. Having and using this type of rug in a home is a health hazard for the people, the kids and the pets around it. One cannot save money by not cleaning rugs like this. We can save money when we protect our investments.

Rug Cleaning and Moth Damage
If you leave your rug without having it cleaned in a dark and humid storage for four years, this is going to happen. Moths would have parties and invite their friends over at your expense! How could they be so heartless?!
Invest in your rug and save it from damages like this. Have your rug cleaned by a professional in your area before storing it. Rug cleaning is not that expensive compared with what you may lose if you store your rug without having it cleaned.

Indian Moth Damaged Rugs For Sale in Los Angeles
Few days ago, a couple came into our rug gallery and said they wanted to sell few Indian rugs which were in storage for 15 years. I told them that the rugs would be most likely damaged by moth, but they did not agree and mentioned that the rugs were in tight bales and bundles. They returned in a few days with a big tow truck with 6 big Indian rugs. One of the bales was opened and I looked at the rug and showed them the moths, eggs and the larvae.
I could not buy the rugs, nor could I let the rugs in our store even for cleaning or possible repair. How could anybody leave rugs in storage for 15 years without opening them, cleaning them and taking care of them??

Moth Damaged Hand Knotted Oriental Carpets and Rugs in Los Angeles
More than any other types of damages, we receive rugs which are damaged by moths. Many people store the rugs in dark and humid places without vacuuming or cleaning them for a long time. There are so much protein and food stuff in rugs and this provides the condition for the eggs and larvae of the moth to grow. Moth damages and bytes the knots and the rug starts loosing the knots and pile. We send these rugs to rug facility to be washed with ample water and soap and dry under sun. After that, we have to make the foundation by providing the warps (vertical threads) and wefts (horizontal threads).
In this post, you may find several pictures of 77 moth damaged rugs a customer gave us for cleaning and repair last week. Some of these hand knotted rugs were totally destroyed so we consulted the customer and threw them in the trash can. They were not worth repairing!!

Repairing a Severely Moth Damaged Rug From Hollywood, Los Angeles
We received a severely moth damaged hand knotted Pakistani rug for repair. This rug was not vacuumed and was not cleaned for many years. It was left in a dark room upstairs in this customer's house in Hollywood in Los Angeles. The moths had damaged the pile and the foundation on the damaged areas was falling apart. We cleaned the rug first with water and soap and let it dry under sun for a couple of days. Then we made the foundation by making the warps and weft on which we could tie the knots and weave the pile. It took us roughly two weeks to finish the job. The customer was so happy with the result that he gave us a $50 tip when we delivered his carpet. I was so happy to see my customer who was satisfied with our job.

Moth Damaged Persian Hand Knotted Kerman Rug and A Moth Damaged Qum Rug
We received a call from a customer in Beverly Hills for a rug cleaning. When we went to this customer's place, we saw an unbelievable scene. A very fine old 9 x 12 hand knotted Persian Kerman carpet severely damaged by moth who were still inside the rolled rug in thousands. Pounds of moth eggs, thousand of worms and flies were there having a party at the expense of the owner of the rug. It was unbelievable!!
She also had a 6 x 9 Persian Qum, rug this one with slight moth damage but with some damage on one end. We took both rugs for cleaning. The moths were flying inside the car and I could see them in my inside mirror. The owner said this Kerman rug was bought for $9,000 almost 20 years ago. We cleaned both rugs and repaired the Qum rug. I have not given estimate for the repair of the Kerman rug to the owner of this rug. It will cost him at least $6,000 and it will take 10 weeks to repair it.
