The 2022 New Mexico wildfire season is an ongoing series of wildfires burning throughout the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of 24 June 2022, 899,453 acres (363,996 ha) had burned across the state, including 31 fires greater than 100 acres. The acres-burned figure for 2022 is far above the 1995-2015 average of approximately 270,000 acres burned annually, with the fire season in the state expected to continue until the advent of the regular North American Monsoon weather pattern throughout the Southwestern United States in the summer.

Von 1990 bis 2021 erreichten nur vier Feuer in New Mexico eine Größe von mehr als 100.000 Acre: das größte davon war das Whitewater-Baldy Fire aus dem Jahr 2012, das auf eine Größe von 297.845 Acre bzw. 1206 km² anwuchs. Es folgten das Las Conchas Fire 2011 (156.593 Acre/633 km²), das Silver Fire 2013 (138.546 Acre/560 km²) und das Donaldson Fire 2011 (101.563 Acre/411 km²). Kein einziges Feuer erreichte eine Größe von mehr als 300.000 Acre. Demgegenüber stehen in der Saison 2022 mit dem Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire und dem Black Fire gleich zwei außergewöhnlich große Brände, die beide mit mehr als 300.000 Acre (über 1200 km²) alle vorherigen Brände an Größe übertrafen und damit zu den beiden größten Feuern in dem Bundesstaates seit Beginn systematischer Aufzeichnungen wurden. A number of factors have contributed to the severe wildfire season. The majority of the state is experiencing extreme to exceptional drought conditions as part of a broader severe drought in the North American west, fueled by climate change. A reduced 2021-2022 winter snowpack, long periods of higher-than-normal temperatures, and sustained strong winds have resulted in extreme fire conditions and a number of significant incidents. The season has seen a large number of significant wildfires. In early April 2022, the McBride Fire destroyed over 200 structures and killed two people. Since April 2022, the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire grew to become the largest fire in New Mexico history. It destroyed over 900 structures. Thousands of state residents have been forced to evacuate for extended periods of times, and the fires have produced smoke plumes with severe effects on air quality and health throughout New Mexico.
