- Le polyptote, du grec ancien πολύς/poly (« plusieurs ») et πτωτός/ptoté (« cas » au sens grammatical), est une figure de style qui consiste en la répétition de plusieurs mots de même racine, ou encore d'un même verbe, sous différentes formes comme dans cet extrait de l’Oraison funèbre de Henriette-Anne d'Angleterre (1670), de Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet : « Madame se meurt ! Madame est morte ! » La figure joue donc sur les variations morphosyntaxiques permises par les cas grammaticaux. Son usage est important en rhétorique où elle permet d'insister sur un propos.
