- PALplus war eine zu PAL kompatible Sendenorm für analoges Farbfernsehen. Neue Eigenschaften sind dabei
* die senderseitige Unterdrückung von Farbartefakten,
* Geisterbilderunterdrückung (optional)
* ein 16:9-Modus, der mehr Informationen enthält als ein üblicher 16:9-Film, der im PAL-Format ausgestrahlt wird (mit den schwarzen Streifen oben und unten), sowie
* kleinere Hilfssignale, z. B. Hinweise für den Empfänger,
* ob die Sendung im 16:9- oder 4:3-Format vorliegt (Wide Screen Signalling – WSS) und
* ob das Material im Zeilensprungverfahren („Camera Mode“) oder progressiv („Film mode“) aufgenommen bzw. abgetastet wurde. Mit der Abschaltung der analogen Fernsehausstrahlung in PAL lief auch PALplus aus und wird heute nicht mehr verwendet. (de)
- PALplus (or PAL+) is an analogue television broadcasting system aimed to improve and enhance the PAL format by allowing 16:9 (or 1.77:1) aspect ratio broadcasts, while remaining compatible with existing television receivers, defined by ITU recommendation BT.1197-1. Introduced in 1993, it followed experiences with the HD-MAC (high definition) and D2-MAC, hybrid analogue-digital widescreen formats that were incompatible with PAL receivers. It was developed at the University of Dortmund in Germany, in cooperation with German terrestrial broadcasters and European and Japanese manufacturers. The system had some adoption across Europe during the late 1990s and helped introduce widescreen TVs in the market, but never became mainstream. A similar system, developed in Japan at the same time and named EDTV-II/ Wide-aspect Clear-vision, allows for 16:9 NTSC broadcasts. (en)
- PAL+ is een uitbreiding op het oudere PAL-televisiesysteem waardoor televisiebeelden die in breedbeeld worden uitgezonden vertoond kunnen worden zonder dat er verticale resolutie verloren gaat. Een gewone PAL-tv laat de beelden in 16:9 letterbox met een resolutie van 768×432i zien, met boven en onder zwarte balken. Bij PAL+ worden die zwarte balken gebruikt om extra informatie mee te sturen in het televisiesignaal zodat een speciale PAL+-televisie daarmee weer een resolutie van 1.024×576p kan creëren. Oplettende kijkers kunnen een PAL+-uitzending op een gewone televisie herkennen aan "schimmen" in de zwarte balken. PAL+-tv's herkennen een PAL+-uitzending aan een speciaal signaal dat wordt meegezonden. (nl)

- PALplus to rozszerzenie systemu kodowania obrazu telewizji analogowej PAL. Zostało opracowane w latach 80. XX wieku, wprowadzało lepszą separację barw oraz możliwość przesyłania obrazu w formacie 16:9. Było stosowane od początku lat 90. w niektórych stacjach telewizyjnych na terenie zachodniej Europy. W Polsce stosowała to TVP Polonia. System PALplus nigdy nie zdobył szerszej popularności, przegrywając z telewizją cyfrową. (pl)
- PALplus é um padrão-extensão do padrão PAL utilizado na Europa, para permitir as emissões analógicas em formato 16:9 compatíveis com televisores 4:3. Permite a emissão em e a manutenção das 576 linhas de resolução vertical do sinal original em aparelhos equipados com o respectivo descodificador. Caso o televisor não possua um descodificador compatível, a emissão surge em letterbox, ou seja, com barras por cima e por baixo da imagem, mas que apresenta nestas condições apenas 432 linhas activas. Torna-se assim é idêntico nestas condições a uma normal emissão em letterbox, bastando possuir uma televisão de ecrã panorâmico para que se possa ver a emissão nas proporções correctas e sem barras através de ampliação da porção activa da imagem sem qualquer deformação, manualmente ou automaticamente através de sinais de sinalização emitidos.Actualmente este sistema caiu em desuso devido à migração para sistemas digitais com emissão em DVB-T, formato que suporta a emissão em 16:9 e respectiva conversão automática para todos os formatos de ecrã.
