- Duroliponte (auch Durolipons) ist der antike Name einer kleinen römischen Stadt an der Stelle des heutigen Cambridge in England. Der antike Name des Ortes ist bisher nur im Itinerarium provinciarum Antonini Augusti überliefert. Der Ort lag an der Kreuzung einiger wichtiger Straßen. Die Geschichte von Duroliponte ist vor allem durch Ausgrabungen im Gebiet der heutigen Stadt bekannt. Hier gab es schon eine eisenzeitliche Siedlung. Kurz nach der Eroberung Britanniens durch die Römer wurden hier einige kleinere Befestigungen erbaut, die wohl die hiesigen Straßen und den Flussübergang schützen sollten. Um 70 n. Chr. wurde ein Fort errichtet. Dieses ist bisher nur schlecht untersucht und die Funktion als Militärlager bleibt somit ungewiss. Schon am Beginn des 2. Jahrhunderts wurde das Fort abgetragen. Wenig ist von der Siedlung des zweiten und dritten Jahrhunderts bekannt, doch scheinen die meisten Häuser eher einfache Fachwerkbauten mit nur einem Raum gewesen zu sein. Es fand sich aber immerhin ein Gebäude aus Stein, das sogar Hypokausten aufwies. Dabei handelt es sich vielleicht um eine Mansio (Rasthaus, Herberge). Reste von Wandmalereien in verschiedenen Bauten belegen einen bescheidenen Wohnluxus. Gruben, in denen sich Skelette von Pferden, Hunden, aber auch Kindern und Luxusobjekte fanden, werden als Opfergruben eines Heiligtums interpretiert, in dem vielleicht eine keltische Gottheit verehrt wurde und dem Ort regionale Bedeutung gab. In der Mitte des vierten Jahrhunderts wurde ein ca. 8,6 ha großes Gebiet der Stadt mit einer Mauer, in der bisher drei Tore nachgewiesen wurden, umgeben. Auf dieses konzentrierte sich nun der Ort, der wohl im 5. Jahrhundert aufgegeben wurde. (de)

- Duroliponte or Durolipons was a small town in the Roman province of Britannia on the site of what is now the city of Cambridge. The site of Roman Cambridge is located on Castle Hill, just northwest of the city centre. The fort (Latin: castrum) was bounded on two sides by the lines formed by the present Mount Pleasant, continuing across Huntingdon Road into Clare Street. The eastern side followed , with the southern side running near to Chesterton Lane and Kettle's Yard before turning northwest at Honey Hill. It was originally an Iron Age hillfort in which the Romans may have constructed a small military station about AD 70. The settlement seems to have become civilian in nature around fifty years later. Most of the buildings discovered so far were of timber construction. They had both tiled and thatched roofs and some had painted plaster internal walls. Only one stone building has been located. The town went into decline during the 3rd century, but expanded after its walled defences were put in place a hundred years later. There were four gates and a cemetery to the south. Occupation seems to have continued until the Roman departure from Britain around 410, but it has been identified as the Cair Grauth listed among the 28 cities of Britain by the History of the Britons and the invading Saxons had begun occupying the area by the end of the century. The settlement was served by the River Cam (then still known as the Granta) and two Roman roads: Akeman Street ran from Ermine Street north east through Cambridge to The Fens and the Via Devana ran northwest through the town on its way to Godmanchester. Era in origine una fortezza in collina dell'Età del ferro costruita dai Belgi, su cui i romani costruirono la fortezza nel 70 d.C. Intorno ad esso nel 120 d.C. si sviluppò un piccolo insediamento composto da cascine e da un villaggio. Era situato in un punto strategico a difesa del fiume Cam, al tempo noto come Granta, e due vie romane: la Via Devana e la Akeman Street La maggior parte degli edifici scoperti finora erano in legno, avevano sia tetti di tegole che di paglia e alcuni avevano le pareti interne dipinte in gesso. È stato individuato un solo edificio in pietra. C'erano 4 porte e un cimitero a sud. La città andò in declino nel III secolo, ma si riprese e si espanse dopo che le sue difese murate furono messe in atto il secolo successivo. L'occupazione sembra aver continuato fino alla partenza romana dalla Gran Bretagna intorno al 410. È stata identificata come Cair Grauth, elencata tra le 28 città della Gran Bretagna nella Historia Brittonum e i Sassoni dopo essersi stanziati sull'isola, iniziarono ad occupare l'area alla fine del secolo.
