- Alfredo Dinis, often known by his nom de guerre, "Alex", was a notable Portuguese anti-fascist and member of the Portuguese Communist Party who was murdered in 1945 by the PIDE (Policia Internacional de Defesa do Estado). Dinis was a metallurgical worker who joined the Communist Youth in 1936, aged 19. In August 1938 he was arrested by the PIDE. After spending 19 months in jail, upon release he became responsible for the Party's local committee in Almada, a suburb of Lisbon. In 1942 he was one of the major stimulators of the vast wave of strikes and demonstrations that swept the region of Lisbon, which were brutally repressed due to the criminal character of the Portuguese fascist regime. In 1943, Dinis was present in the Party's 3rd Congress and was elected to the Central Committee. In 1944, he was again involved in the wave of strikes carried out in May. In 1945, shortly before being murdered, was elected to the Party's Political Bureau. Alfredo Dinis was killed by the political police near Sintra, on July 4th, 1945. (en)

À l'époque du régime de l'Estado Novo fondé par le général António de Oliveira Salazar, alors que le Parti communiste portugais était entré en clandestinité, "Alex" est ouvrier métallurgiste. Il rejoint la Jeunesse communiste en 1936 ; il est alors âgé de 19 ans. En août 1938, il est arrêté par la police politique (Police Internationale de Défense de l'Etat : PIDE). Après avoir passé 19 mois en prison, il devient le responsable de comité local du Parti en Almada, dans la banlieue de Lisbonne. En 1942, il est l'un des principaux meneur de la grande vague de grèves et de manifestations qui paralysent la région de Lisbonne et qui sont brutalement réprimées par la régime dictatorial. En 1943, Alex est présent au 3e Congrès du parti clandestin et est élu au Comité central. En mai 1944, il est de nouveau un des meneurs de la vague de grèves. En 1945, il est élu au Bureau politique du Parti. Le 4 juillet 1945, Alfredo Dinis est assassiné près de Sintra par la PIDE (Policia Internacional de Defesa do Estado). Il est alors âgé de 28 ans. Operário metalúrgico dos estaleiros da H. Parry & Son, em Cacilhas, iniciou a sua actividade política e partidária contra o Estado Novo em 1936, como membro das Juventudes Comunistas, tendo igualmente pertencido ao Socorro Vermelho Internacional. Alfredo Dinis participou ativamente na organização das greves de Novembro de 1942 na margem Sul do Tejo, de julho e agosto de 1943 e de 8 e 9 de maio de 1944, e nas manifestações da vitória dos aliados na Segunda Guerra Mundial. Foi assassinado pela brigada do inspector da PIDE José Gonçalves, em 4 de julho de 1945, na estrada de Bucelas, no concelho de Loures quando se dirigia para uma reunião clandestina com Joaquim Campino e António Dias Lourenço.
