Online Appendix: Stories, Statistics and Memory Thomas Graeber Christopher Roth Florian Zimmermann A Additional Results A.1 Robustness to Decoy Information To further probe into the robustness of the story-statistic gap, we examine the role of features of the decoy information using an additional experiment, in which we systematically manipulate the type and valence of decoy information. We exogenously manipulate the type of information for the two decoy scenarios. Respondents either received two statistics for the decoys, two stories or twice no information. In addition, in contrast to the baseline design, we fully randomize the valence of the information provided for each scenario. In the follow-up survey, we elicit beliefs exactly as in the baseline survey.
