The identification of secondary particles by ionisation sampling (ISIS) / Allison, W W M ; Brooks, C B ; Bunch, J N ; Cobb, J H ; Lloyd, J L ; Pleming, R W
A large volume multi-wire proportional chamber employing drift paths of up to 2m in an unconventional geometry is described. This device will distinguish between kaons, pions and protons for all secondaries from 5 GeV/c to over 100 GeV/c and obtain over 300 transverse position measurements on each track to an accuracy of approximately 2mm. High energy particle identification using multilayer proportional counters / Jeanne, D ; Aderholz, M ; Lazeyras, Pierre ; Lehraus, Ivan ; Matthewson, R ; Tejessy, W
An optimised system of proportional counters consisting of 128 layers (32 channels each, 190*60 cm/sup 2/ detection area) is being developed to work in connection with the Big European Bubble Chamber at SPS energies. It will be capable of identification of simultaneous particles up to 70 GeV/c by ionization measurements in the region of the relativistic rise. [...]

A transition radiation detector for pion identification in the 100 GeV /c momentum region / Commichau, V ; Deutschmann, Martin ; Goddeke, H ; Hangarter, K ; Putzhofen, U ; Schulte, R ; Struczinski, W
A large area transition radiation detector has been proposed for the European Hybrid Spectrometer at CERN. Its construction is based on experience with a smaller size model detector which has been tested in hadron beams between 40 and 140 GeV/c momentum. [...]

Automatic measurement of 12 GeV/c pp interactions in the CERN 2 m HBC / van Apeldoorn, G W ; Gosman, D ; Harting, D ; Hartjes, F G ; Hertzberger, L O ; Holthuizen, D J ; Pfeijffers, R ; Pijlgroms, B J ; Rijssenbeek, M ; Tenner, A G et al.
The authors report on the automatic method developed in Amsterdam for the measurement of 125 k pictures of an exposure of 12 GeV/c p in the CERN 2 m HBC. The method uses an HPD in zero guidance mode. [...]

The methodics of the identification of pi /sup -/p elastic interactions in bubble chamber / Balea, E ; Balea, O ; Berceanu, S ; Coca, C ; Karnauhov, V M ; Mihul, A L M ; Moroz, V I ; Sararu, A
A method for elastic events separation from the prong-events in a hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to pi /sup -/ meson beams is presented. It is argued that for elastic events the simultaneous cuts in the angle of coplanarity and the angular kinematical correlation are less sensitive to the experimental errors than in other kinematical correlations. A missing-mass spectrometer for momenta below 15 GeV/c / D'Agostini, G ; Arrignon, M ; Auriemma, G ; Bézaguet, Alain-Arthur ; Caillet, A ; Chèze, J B ; De Brion, J P ; Derré, J ; Ducastaing, G ; Durand, G et al.
An apparatus consisting of two magnetic spectrometers has been constructed at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) in a missing-mass experiment to identify and select the beam particle and the outgoing one, and to measure their momenta. The authors give details of the two spectrometers, which are comprised of multiwire proportional chambers, high resolution time-of-flight counters, and aerogel and water Cherenkov detectors. [...]
