Two-Dimensional Longitudinal Painting at Injection into the CERN PS Booster / Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bielawski, Bartosz Przemyslaw (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Wegner, Rolf (CERN)
To inject highest beam intensities at the transfer from Linac4 into the four rings of the PS Booster (PSB) at CERN, protons must be accumulated during up to 148 turns in total. With the conventional, fixed chopping pattern this process results in an approximately rectangular distribution in the longitudinal phase space. [...]

Summary of the First Fully Operational Run of LINAC4 at CERN / Skowroński, Piotr (CERN) ; Bellodi, Giulia (CERN) ; Bielawski, Bartosz Przemyslaw (CERN) ; Borner, Robert (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Gousiou, Evangelia (CERN) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Parra-Lopez, Julien (CERN) et al.
In December 2020 the newly commissioned LINAC4 started delivering beam for the CERN proton accelerator chain, replacing the old LINAC2. LINAC4 is a 352 MHz normal conducting linac, providing a beam of negative hydrogen ions at 160 MeV that are converted into protons at injection into the PS Booster synchrotron. [...]

Beam Performance with the LHC Injectors Upgrade / zannini, C (CERN) ; Wegner, R (CERN) ; Vollinger, C (CERN) ; Veness, R (CERN) ; Velotti, F (CERN) ; Sullivan, M (CERN) ; Steerenberg, R (CERN) ; Spierer, A (CERN) ; Skowronski, P (CERN) ; Sito, L (CERN) et al.
The LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project was put in place between 2010 and 2021 to increase the intensity and brightness in the LHC injectors to match the challenging requirements of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, while ensuring reliable operation of the injectors complex up to the end of the HL-LHC era (ca. 2040). [...]

Optimised Transverse Painting Schemes for the New 160 MeV H$^-$ Injection System at CERN / Renner, Elisabeth (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Prebibaj, Tirsi (CERN ; Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN)
A major aspect of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project at CERN is the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) connection to the newly built Linac4 and the related installation of a new 160 MeV H$^-$ charge exchange injection. This contribution presents the first operational experience with the new injection system and its flexibility of applying horizontal phase space painting to tailor different beams to the respective user-defined brightness targets. The PSB Operational Scenario with Longitudinal Painting Injection in the Post-LIU Era / Forte, Vincenzo (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Benedetto, Elena (CERN) ; Blas, Alfred (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN) ; Findlay, Alan (CERN) ; Garoby, Roland (CERN) et al.
Longitudinal painting has been presented as an elegant technique to fill the longitudinal phase space at injection to the CERN PSB once it is connected with the new Linac4. Painting brings several advantages related to a more controlled longitudinal filamentation, lower peak line density and beating reduction, resulting in a smaller space-charge tune spread. [...]

After the successful completion of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, the CERN Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) has produced beams with up to two times higher brightness. However, the efforts to continuously improve the beam quality for the CERN physics experiments are ongoing. [...]

Identification and compensation of betatronic resonances in the Proton Synchrotron Booster at 160 MeV / Santamaría García, Andrea (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Asvesta, Foteini (CERN ; Natl. Tech. U., Athens) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Rafique, Haroon (CERN)
The Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) is the first circular accelerator in the injector chain to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and accelerates protons from 50 MeV to 1.4 GeV. The PSB will need to deliver two times the current brightness after the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) in order to meet the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) beam requirements. [...]

Low Level RF Control Algorithms for the CERN Proton LINAC4 / Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Bielawski, Bartosz Przemyslaw (CERN) ; Borner, Robert (CERN)
The CERN Linac4 Low Level RF (LLRF) uses a Linear Quadratic Gaussian regulator and an Adaptive Feed Forward to stabilize the accelerating field in the cavities in the presence of strong beam loading. A Klystron Polar Loop is also implemented to compensate the RF perturbations caused by the ripples and droop in the klystron High Voltage supply. [...]

After the successful implementation of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, studies were conducted in the CERN Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) in order to assess the intensity reach with the increased beam brightness. The studies focused on the high intensity beams delivered to the PSB users, both at 1.4 and 2 GeV. [...]
