Update on comparison of the particle production using Mars simulation code
/ Prior, G (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S S (CERN) ; Kirk, H G (Brookhaven) ; Souchlas, N (Brookhaven) ; Ding, X (UCLA)
In the International Design Study for the Neutrino Factory (IDS-NF), a 5-15 GeV (kinetic energy) proton beam impinges a Hg jet target, in order to produce pions that will decay into muons. The muons are captured and transformed into a beam, then passed to the downstream acceleration system. [...]

Interim Design Report
/ DS-NF collaboration
The International Design Study for the Neutrino Factory (the IDS-NF) was established by the community at the ninth 'International Workshop on Neutrino Factories, super-beams, and beta- beams' which was held in Okayama in August 2007. [...]

Neutrino Factory
/ Bogomilov, M (Sofiya U.) ; Matev, R (Sofiya U.) ; Tsenov, R (Sofiya U.) ; Dracos, M (Strasbourg, IPHC) ; Bonesini, M (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Palladino, V (INFN, Naples ; Naples U.) ; Tortora, L (INFN, Rome) ; Mori, Y (Kyoto U., KURRI) ; Planche, T (Kyoto U., KURRI) ; Lagrange, J B (Kyoto U., KURRI) et al.
The properties of the neutrino provide a unique window on physics beyond that described by the standard model. The study of subleading effects in neutrino oscillations, and the race to discover CP-invariance violation in the lepton sector, has begun with the recent discovery that $\theta_{13} > 0$. [...]

Muon front end for the neutrino factory
/ Rogers, C T (Rutherford) ; Stratakis, D (Brookhaven) ; Prior, G (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Neuffer, D (Fermilab) ; Snopok, P (IIT, Chicago) ; Alekou, A (Imperial Coll., London) ; Pasternak, J (Imperial Coll., London ; Rutherford)
In the neutrino factory, muons are produced by firing high-energy protons onto a target to produce pions. The pions decay to muons and pass through a capture channel known as the muon front end, before acceleration to 12.6 GeV. [...]

A Simplified Magnetic Field Tapering and Target Optimisation for the Neutrino Factory Capture System
/ Efthymiopoulos, Ilias (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Hansen, Ole (CERN) ; Prior, Gersende (CERN) ; Hansen, Ole (U. Oslo (main) ; CERN) ; Prior, Gersende (Canterbury U. ; CERN)
In the Neutrino Factory, a 4 MW proton beam with a kinetic energy between 5 and 15 GeV interacts with a liquid mercury jet target in order to produce pions that will decay to muons, which in turn decay to neutrinos. The baseline-capturing layout consists of a series of solenoids producing a tapered magnetic field from 20 T, near the target, down to 1.5 T at the entrance of the drift section where the captured pions decay into muons to produce a useful beam for the machine. [...]

Muon capture in the front end of the IDS neutrino factory
/ Neuffer, D. (Fermilab) ; Martini, M. (CERN) ; Prior, G. (CERN) ; Rogers, C. (Rutherford) ; Yoshikawa, C. (MUONS Inc., Batavia)
We discuss the design of the muon capture front end of the neutrino factory International Design Study. In the front end, a proton bunch on a target creates secondary pions that drift into a capture transport channel, decaying into muons [...]
