Stochastic cooling of the Spectrometer Ring (SRing) at the High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) project in China, which is used mainly for experiments with radioactive fragment beams, is applied to speed up the cooling process of a stored ion beam. In this study, both a Faltin traveling wave structure and a novel slot-ring standing wave structure based on a ceramic vacuum chamber are discussed and evaluated for the pickup/kicker of the SRing stochastic cooling system. The CPHS project in Tsinghua University plans to construct a 13 MeV linear accelerator to deliver a pulsed proton beam having an average beam current of 2.5 mA. A Drift Tube Linac (DTL), following a Radio Frequency Quadrupole accelerator(RFQ), will accelerate protons from 3 to 13MeV. [...]

For a bunched beam, the signals on pickups are coherent, providing a signal power proportional to the square of the number of particles. For a coasting beam the individual particle signals have a random phase; therefore, the overall signal is proportional to the particle number N. [...]

A diagonal-cut type beam position monitor (BPM) has been developed for the High Intensity Heavy-Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) project at the Institute of Modern Physics. Compared with other types of BPMs, the diagonal-cut type BPM has almost perfect position linearity, i.e., no non-linear correction required, which is advantageous for beams that are transversally large and have a complex charge distribution. Prompt and delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-deficient, semi-magic isotope 187Pb has been performed using the recoil-decay and isomer-decay tagging techniques at the Argonne Gas-Filled Analyzer. A new 5.15(15)-μs isomeric state at only 308 keV above the spherical 3/2− ground state is identified and classified as a shape isomer. [...]
