We report on the development, characterization, and first application of a specialized resonance ionization laser ion source for high-resolution spectroscopy applications below usual hot cavity Doppler broadening limitations, for on-line experiments at CERN-ISOLDE. The new PI-LIST ion source comprises perpendicular laser/atom beam interaction in a radio-frequency quadrupole unit directly downstream the hot atomizer cavity. [...]

Developments at CERN-ISOLDE’s OFFLINE 2 mass separator facility for studies of molecular ion beams
/ Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Bernerd, C (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Gracia, Y Nel Vila (CERN) ; Athanasakis-Kaklamanakis, M (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Ballof, J (CERN ; Michigan State U.) ; Bissell, M (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, K (CERN) ; Heinke, R (CERN) ; Le, L (CERN) ; Mancheva, R (CERN ; Leuven U.) et al.
ISOLDE’s Offline 2 laboratory has been upgraded to facilitate development for the production and study of molecular ion beams. New gas injection systems have been implemented for both molecular formation in the ion source and in the radio-frequency quadrupole ion trap used for beam preparation. [...]
