A CLIC Damping Wiggler Prototype at ANKA: Commissioning and Preparations for a Beam Dynamics Experimental Program / Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Bragin, Alexey (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Casalbuoni, Sara (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Ferracin, Paolo (CERN) ; Garcia Fajardo, Laura (CERN) ; Gerstl, Stefan (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Gethmann, Julian (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Grau, Andreas (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Huttel, Erhard (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Khrushchev, Sergey (Novosibirsk, IYF) et al.
In a collaboration between CERN, BINP and KIT a prototype of a superconducting damping wiggler for the CLIC damping rings has been installed at the ANKA synchrotron light source. On the one hand, the foreseen experimental program aims at validating the technical design of the wiggler, particularly the conduction cooling concept applied in its cryostat design, in a long-term study. The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) will require ultra-low emittance electron and positron beams. The targeted emittance will be achieved by radiative damping in the CLIC damping rings. [...]

Studies of Longitudinal Dynamics in the Micro-Bunching Instability Using Machine Learning / Boltz, Tobias (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Brosi, Miriam (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Bründermann, Erik (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Schwarz, Markus (CERN) ; Schönfeldt, Patrik (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Yan, Minjie (KIT, Karlsruhe)
The operation of synchrotron light sources with short electron bunches increases the emitted CSR power in the THz frequency range. However, the spatial compression leads to complex longitudinal dynamics, causing the formation of micro-structures in the longitudinal bunch profiles. [...]

Bending Radius Limits of Different Coated REBCO Conductor Tapes - An Experimental Investigation with Regard to HTS Undulators / Richter, Sebastian C (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Drechsler, Antje (KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Ringsdorf, Bernd (KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Schlachter, Sonja I (KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Schoerling, Daniel (CERN)
Compact FELs require short-period, high-field undulators in combination with compact accelerator structures to produce coherent light up to X-rays. Likewise, for the production of low emittance positron beams for future lepton colliders, like CLIC or FCC-ee, high-field damping wigglers are required. [...]

Transverse Tunes Determination from Mixed BPM Data / Zisopoulos, Panagiotis (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Hertle, Edmund (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe, IPE) ; Papaphilippou, Yannis (CERN)
Decoherence due to non-zero chromaticity and/or amplitude dependent tune-shift, but also damping mechanisms can affect the accurate tune determination by leaving a limited number of turns for frequency analysis of the turn by turn (TbT) position data. In order to by-pass these problems, Fourier analysis of mixed TBT data from all BPMs can be employed. [...]

Status and Powering Test Results of HTS Undulator Coils at 77 K for Compact FEL Designs / Richter, Sebastian (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Bernhard, Axel (KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) ; Müller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) ; Nes, Thomas (CERN) ; Schoerling, Daniel (CERN)
The production of low emittance positron beams for future linear and circular lepton colliders, like CLIC or FCC-ee, requires high-field damping wigglers. Just as compact free-electron lasers (FELs) require high-field but as well short-period undulators to emit high energetic, coherent photons. [...]

Systematic studies of the microbunching and weak instability at short bunch lengths / Brosi, M (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Blomley, E (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Boltz, T (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Bründermann, E (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Caselle, M (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Gethmann, J (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Kehrer, B (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Papash, A.I. (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Rota, L (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Schönfeldt, P (KIT, Karlsruhe) et al.
At KARA, the Karlsruhe Research Accelerator of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology synchrotron, the so-called short-bunch operation mode allows the reduction of the bunch length down to a few picoseconds. The microbunching instability resulting from the high degree of longitudinal compression leads to fluctuations in the emitted terahertz radiation. [...]
