Fission measurements with PPAC detectors using a coincidence technique
/ Paradela, C (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Duran, I (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Tarrio, D (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Tassan-Got, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Stephan, C (Orsay, IPN)

A fission detection setup based on Parallel Plate Avalanche Counters (PPAC) has been constructed and used at the CERN n_TOF facility. The setup takes advantage of the coincidence detection of both fission fragments to discriminate the background reactions produced by high energy neutrons and it allows obtaining neutron-induced fission cross section up to 1 GeV..

Neutron-induced fission cross section of U234 measured at the CERN n_TOF facility
/ Karadimos, D ; Vlastou, R ; Ioannidis, K ; Demetriou, P ; Diakaki, M ; Vlachoudis, V (CERN) ; Pavlopoulos, P ; Konovalov, V ; Abbondanno, U ; Aerts, G et al.
The neutron-induced fission cross section of U234 has been measured at the CERN n_TOF facility relative to the standard fission cross section of U235 from 20 keV to 1.4 MeV and of U238 from 1.4 to 200 MeV. A fast ionization chamber (FIC) was used as a fission fragment detector with a detection efficiency of no less than 97%. [...]

/n_TOF
Since 2001, the scientific programme of the CERN n_TOF facility has focused mainly on the study of radiative neutron capture reactions, which are of great interest to nuclear astrophysics and on neutron-induced fission reactions, which are of relevance for nuclear technology, as well as essential for the development of theoretical models of fission. In particular, taking advantage of the high instantaneous neutron flux and high energy resolution of the facility, as well as of high-performance detection and acquisition systems, accurate new measurements on several long-lived major and minor actinides, from 232 Th to 245 Cm, have been performed so far. A major part of the scientific program of the CERN n_TOF facility involves the study of neutron-induced fission reactions, which is essential for nuclear technology, as well as for the development of the theoretical models of fission. An overview of the fission studies performed and the corresponding detection systems is given, with a short description of the latest highlights..

Validation of Cross Sections with Criticality Experiment and Reaction Rates: the Neptunium Case
/ Leong, L S (Orsay, IPN) ; Tassan-Got, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Berthier, B (Orsay, IPN) ; Le Naour, C (Orsay, IPN) ; Stéphan, C (Orsay, IPN) ; Paradela, C (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Tarrío, D (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Duran, I (Santiago de Compostela U.)
The Np-237 neutron-induced fission cross section has been recently measured in a large energy range (from eV to GeV) at the n\_TOF facility at CERN. When compared to previous measurements the n\_TOF fission cross section appears to be higher by 5-7\% beyond the fission threshold. [...]

A fission reaction chamber based on Parallel Plate Avalanche Counters (PPACs) was built for measuring angular distributions of fragments emitted in neutron-induced fission of actinides at the neutron beam available at the Neutron Time-Of-Flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN. The detectors and the samples were tilted 45 1 with respect to the neutron beam direction to cover all the possible values of the emission angle of the fission fragments [...]
