The ELENA Electron Cooler / Tranquille, Gerard (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Frassier, Alexandre (CERN) ; Jørgensen, Lars (CERN) ; Kolehmainen, Antti (CERN) ; Moles, Benjamin (CERN) ; Timmins, Marc (CERN)
The ELENA (Extra Low ENergy Antiproton) ring will deliver antiprotons at an energy of just 100 keV to experiments aiming to precisely measure the properties of anti-hydrogen atoms. A crucial component of this decelerator ring is the electron cooler which will be used to counter the beam blow-up as the antiproton energy is reduced from 5.3 MeV to 100 keV. [...]

Commissioning of the SEM-Grid Monitors for ELENA / McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Hori, Masaki (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Tranquille, Gerard (CERN)
ELENA is a compact ring for cooling and further deceleration of 5.3 MeV antiprotons delivered by the CERN Antiproton Decelerator. It decelerates antiprotons to a minimum energy of 100 keV, creating special challenges for the beam instrumentation. [...]

Development of a Field Emission Electron Gun for Low Energy Electron Cooling / Tranquille, Gerard (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Galante, Bruno (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Welker, Elisabeth-Sena (CERN ; Vienna, Tech. U.)
The use of carbon nanotubes (CNT) as a cold electron source for a low energy electron cooler has been studied in detail. To fully characterise different CNT arrays (conditioning process, emitted current, lifetime) and to investigate the optimum electrical configuration of the source to be used in an electron gun, a cold cathode test bench (CCTB) has been set up. [...]

A Test Bench for Characterizing Electron Cooler Components at up to -80 kVDC / Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Frassier, Alexandre (CERN) ; Tranquille, Gerard (CERN)
During the upcoming Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), the electron cooler of CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator (AD) will be replaced by a new electron cooler. The present electron cooler operates at the maximum energy of about 27keV. [...]

Stability and Lifetime Studies of Carbon Nanotubes for Electron Cooling in ELENA / Galante, Bruno (CERN ; Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Resta-López, Javier (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Liverpool U. ; Valencia U.) ; Tranquille, Gerard (CERN) ; Welsch, Carsten (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
Electron cooling is a fundamental process to guarantee beam quality in low energy antimatter facilities. In ELENA, the electron cooler reduces the emittance blow-up of the antiproton beam so that a focused and bright beam can be delivered to the experiments at the unprecedentedly low energy of 100 keV. The CERN-ELENA Electron Cooler Magnetic System / Tranquille, Gerard (CERN) ; Jørgensen, Lars (CERN) ; Luckin, David (Tesla Engineering, Storrington) ; Warner, Rory (Tesla Engineering, Storrington)
Phase space compression of the antiproton beam in ELENA will be performed by a new electron cooler the performance of which is greatly influenced by the properties of the electron beam. Careful design of the electron gun electrodes, the efficient recuperation of the electrons in the collector and the quality of the guiding magnetic field ensure an optimal performance of the cooler.
