/ Fegan, S (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Auffray, E (CERN) ; Battaglieri, M (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Buchanan, E (Glasgow U.) ; Caiffi, B (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Celentano, A (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Colaneri, L (INFN, Rome2 ; Rome U., Tor Vergata) ; D׳Angelo, A (INFN, Rome2 ; Rome U., Tor Vergata) ; De Vita, R (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Dormenev, V (U. Giessen, II. Phys. Inst.) et al.
The well-established technology of electromagnetic calorimetry using Lead Tungstate crystals has recently seen an upheaval, with the closure of one of the most experienced large-scale suppliers of such crystals, the Bogoroditsk Technical Chemical Plant (BTCP), which was instrumental in the development of mass production procedures for PWO-II, the current benchmark for this scintillator. Obtaining alternative supplies of Lead Tungstate crystals matching the demanding specifications of contemporary calorimeter devices now presents a significant challenge to detector research and development programmes..

We present a non-perturbative calculation of the form factors which contribute to the amplitudes for the radiative decays $P\to \ell \bar \nu_\ell \gamma$, where $P$ is a pseudoscalar meson and $\ell$ is a charged lepton. Together with the non-perturbative determination of the virtual photon corrections to the processes $P\to \ell \bar \nu_\ell$, this will allow accurate predictions to be made at $O(\alpha_{em})$ for leptonic decay rates for pseudoscalar mesons ranging from the pion to the $B$ meson. Lead tungstate crystals doped with small fractions of praesodynium or molybdenum have been tested in beams of high-energy electrons. The goal of these tests was to study the effects of such dopants on the capability to separate the signal components deriving from the Cherenkov and scintillation light generated by the beam particles. The data collected during 2005 by the resonant bar Explorer are divided into segments and incoherently summed in order to perform an all-sky search for periodic gravitational wave signals. The parameter space of the search spanned about 40 Hz in frequency, over 23927 positions in the sky. [...]

We present recent results of an extensive aging test, performed at the CERN Gamma Irradiation Facility on two single-gap RPC prototypes, developed for the LHCb Muon System. With a method based on a model describing the behaviour of an RPC under high particle flux conditions, we have periodically measured the electrode resistance R of the two RPC prototypes over three years: we observe a large spontaneous increase of R with time, from the initial value of about 2 MOhm to more than 250 MOhm. Performance and operation of the calorimetric trigger processor of the NA62 experiment at CERN SPS
/ Ammendola, R (Rome U., Tor Vergata) ; Barbanera, M (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Battista, D (Rome U., Tor Vergata) ; Bizzarri, M (Perugia U.) ; Bonaiuto, V (Rome U., Tor Vergata) ; Ceccucci, A (CERN) ; Checcucci, B (INFN, Perugia) ; Simone, N De (CERN) ; Fantechi, R (CERN) ; Federici, L (Rome U., Tor Vergata ; INFN, Rome2) et al.
The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS aims at measuring the branching ratio of the very rare kaon decay $K^+ \to π^+ ν \bar {\nu}$ (expected $10^{-10}$) with a 10% background. Since an high-intensity kaon beam is required to collect enough statistics, the Level-0 trigger plays a fundamental role in both the background rejection and in the particle identification. [...]

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS aims to measure the branching ratio of the very rare kaon decay $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$, collecting $\sim 100$ events with a 10\% background to make a stringent test of the Standard Model. The calorimeter level 0 trigger is used to suppress one of the main backgrounds, the $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \pi^0$ decay, and to select events with a $\pi^+$ in the final state. [...]
