The experimental area 2 (EAR-2) at CERNs neutron time-of-flight facility (n_TOF), which is operational since 2014, is designed and built as a short-distance complement to the experimental area 1 (EAR-1). The Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) monitor experiment was performed to characterize the beam profile and the shape of the neutron flux at EAR-2. [...]

High precision measurement of the radiative capture cross section of $^{238}$U at the n_TOF CERN facility / Mingrone, F (CERN ; INFN, Bologna) ; Altstadt, S (Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Andrzejewski, J (U. Lodz (main)) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Bečvář, F (Charles U., Prague (main)) ; Belloni, F (IRFU, Saclay) ; Berthoumieux, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Billowes, J (U. Manchester (main)) et al. /n_TOF
The importance of improving the accuracy on the capture cross-section of $^{238}$U has been addressed by the Nuclear Energy Agency, since its uncertainty significantly affects the uncertainties of key design parameters for both fast and thermal nuclear reactors. Within the 7th framework programme ANDES of the European Commission three different measurements have been carried out with the aim of providing the $^{238} \text{U(n,}\gamma)$ cross-section with an accuracy which varies from 1 to 5%, depending on the energy range. Monte carlo simulations of the n_TOF lead spallation target with the Geant4 toolkit: A benchmark study / Lerendegui-Marco, J (Seville U.) ; Cortés-Giraldo, M A (Seville U.) ; Guerrero, C (Seville U.) ; Quesada, J M (Seville U.) ; Lo Meo, S (ENEA, Bologna ; INFN, Bologna) ; Massimi, C (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Colonna, N (INFN, Bari) ; Mancussi, D (IRFU, Saclay) ; Mingrone, F (CERN) et al. /n_TOF
Monte Carlo (MC) simulations are an essential tool to determine fundamental features of a neutron beam, such as the neutron flux or the γ-ray background, that sometimes can not be measured or at least not in every position or energy range. Until recently, the most widely used MC codes in this field had been MCNPX and FLUKA. [...]

A segmented total energy detector (sTED) for (n, γ) cross section measurements at n_TOF EAR2 / n_TOF Collaboration
The neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF is characterised by its high instantaneous neutron intensity, high-resolution and broad neutron energy spectra, specially conceived for neutron-induced reaction cross section measurements. Two Time-Of-Flight (TOF) experimental areas are available at the facility: experimental area 1 (EAR1), located at the end of the 185 m horizontal flight path from the spallation target, and experimental area 2 (EAR2), placed at 20 m from the target in the vertical direction. Neutron capture cross section measurements of $^{241}$Am at the n_TOF facility / n_TOF Collaboration
Neutron capture on $^{241}$ Am plays an important role in the nuclear energy production and also provides valuable information for the improvement of nuclear models and the statistical interpretation of the nuclear properties. A new experiment to measure the $^{241}$ Am(n,$\gamma$) cross section in the thermal region and the first few resonances below 10 eV has been carried out at EAR2 of the n_TOF facility at CERN. [...]

Measurement of the neutron capture cross section of the fissile isotope $^{235}$U with the CERN n_TOF total absorption calorimeter and a fission tagging based on micromegas detectors / Balibrea-Correa, J (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Krtička, M (Charles U., Prague (main)) ; Altstadt, S (Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Andrzejewski, J (U. The accuracy on neutron capture cross section of fissile isotopes must be improved for the design of future nuclear systems such as Gen-IV reactors and Accelerator Driven Systems. The High Priority Request List of the Nuclear Energy Agency, which lists the most important nuclear data requirements, includes also the neutron capture cross sections of fissile isotopes such as $^{233,235}$U and $^{239,241}$Pu. Measurement of the $^{244}$Cm capture cross sections at both CERN n_TOF experimental areas / Alcayne, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Kimura, A (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Amaducci, S (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Andrzejewski, J (Lodz U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Babiano-Suarez, V (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Bacak, M (CERN ; Vienna, Tech. U. ; IRFU, Saclay) et al.
Accurate neutron capture cross section data for minor actinides (MAs) are required to estimate the production and transmutation rates of MAs in light water reactors with a high burnup, critical fast reactors like Gen-IV systems and other innovative reactor systems such as accelerator driven systems (ADS). Capture reactions of $^{244}$Cm open the path for the formation of heavier Cm isotopes and of heavier elements such as Bk and Cf. [...]

A Segmented Total Energy Detector (sTED) optimized for $(n,\gamma)$ cross-section measurements at n_TOF EAR2 / n_TOF Collaboration
The neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN is a spallation source dedicated to measurements of neutron-induced reaction cross-sections of interest in nuclear technologies, astrophysics, and other applications. Since 2014, Experimental ARea 2 (EAR2) is operational and delivers a neutron fluence of $4\times 10^7$ neutrons per nominal proton pulse, which is 50 times higher than the one of Experimental ARea 1 (EAR1) of $8\times10^5$ neutrons per pulse. First results of the $^{230}$Th(n,f) cross section measurements at the CERN n_TOF facility / n_TOF Collaboration
The study of neutron-induced reactions on actinides is of considerable importance for the design of advanced nuclear systems and alternative fuel cycles. Specifically, $^{230}$Th is produced from the α-decay of $^{234}$U as a byproduct of the $^{232}$Th/$^{233}$U fuel cycle, thus the accurate knowledge of its fission cross section is strongly required.
