ENUBET has been conceived to monitor positrons from $K_{e3}$ decays in conventional neutrino beam decay tunnels in order to provide a direct determination of the $\nu_e$ flux at the source, paving the way to a measurement of electron neutrino cross section with 1% precision. Since 2016 remarkable results on the prototyping and testing of the tunnel instrumentation for positron tagging have been achieved, as well as on the design and simulation of the proton extraction scheme, the focusing system and the meson transfer line. The ENUBET ERC project, also included in the CERN Neutrino Platform as NP06/ENUBET, is developing a new neutrino beam based on conventional techniques in which the flux and the flavor composition are known with unprecedented precision (O (1%)). Such a goal is accomplished monitoring the associated charged leptons produced in the decay region of the ENUBET facility. [...]

The next generation of neutrino experiments requires measurements of absolute neutrino cross sections at the GeV scale with high precision (∼1%) presently limited by the uncertainties on neutrino flux. Monitoring the lepton production in the decay tunnel of neutrino beams is the most straightforward way to measure the neutrino flux at source. [...]

The ENUBET project aims at demonstrating that the systematics in neutrino fluxes from conventional beams can be reduced to 1% by monitoring positrons from K$_{e3}$ decays in an instrumented decay tunnel, thus allowing a precise measurement of the $\nu_e$ (and $\overline{\nu}_e$) cross section. This contribution will report the results achieved in the first year of activities. [...]

The ERC granted ENUBET project aims at developing the technologies to reduce by a factor $\sim$10 the systematics in neutrino fluxes from conventional beams, allowing measuring the $\nu_e$ (and $\overline{\nu}_e$) cross section with a 1% precision, in the region of interest for future oscillation experiments looking for CP violation. This goal is accomplished by monitoring in an instrumented decay tunnel the high angle positron produced in K$_{e3}$ decays of charged kaons, in a sign and momentum selected narrow band beam. [...]
