Glimpses of black hole formation/evaporation in highly inelastic, ultra-planckian string collisions / Addazi, Andrea (L'Aquila U. ; Gran Sasso) ; Bianchi, Massimo (Rome U., Tor Vergata ; INFN, Rome2) ; Veneziano, Gabriele (College de France ; CERN ; Rome U.)
We revisit possible glimpses of black-hole formation by looking at ultra-planckian string-string collisions at very high final-state multiplicity. We compare, in particular, previous results using the optical theorem, the resummation of ladder diagrams at arbitrary loop order, and the AGK cutting rules, with the more recent study of $2 \rightarrow N$ scattering at $N \sim s M_P^{-2} \gg 1$. Final results of the search for $\nu_{\mu} \to \nu_{e}$ oscillations with the OPERA detector in the CNGS beam / OPERA Collaboration
The OPERA experiment has discovered the tau neutrino appearance in the CNGS muon neutrino beam, in agreement with the 3 neutrino flavour oscillation hypothesis. The OPERA neutrino interaction target, made of Emulsion Cloud Chamber, was particularly efficient in the reconstruction of electromagnetic showers. [...]

Muon Energy Estimate Through Multiple Scattering with the Macro Detector / MACRO Collaboration
Muon energy measurement represents an important issue for any experiment addressing neutrino induced upgoing muon studies. Since the neutrino oscillation probability depends on the neutrino energy, a measurement of the muon energy adds an important piece of information concerning the neutrino system. [...]

Search for Majorana neutrinos exploiting millikelvin cryogenics with CUORE / CUORE Collaboration
The possibility that neutrinos may be their own antiparticles, unique among the known fundamental particles, arises from the symmetric theory of fermions proposed by Ettore Majorana in 1937. Given the profound consequences of such Majorana neutrinos, among which is a potential explanation for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe via leptogenesis, the Majorana nature of neutrinos commands intense experimental scrutiny globally; one of the primary experimental probes is neutrinoless double beta ($0 \nu \beta \beta$) decay. Limits on muon-neutrino to tau-neutrino oscillations induced by a sterile neutrino state obtained by OPERA at the CNGS beam / OPERA Collaboration
The OPERA experiment, exposed to the CERN to Gran Sasso $\nu_\mu$ beam, collected data from 2008 to 2012. Four oscillated $\nu_\tau$ Charged Current interaction candidates have been detected in appearance mode, which are consistent with $\nu_\mu \to \nu_\tau$ oscillations at the atmospheric $\Delta m^2$ within the "standard" three-neutrino framework. [...]

Gravitational bremsstrahlung in ultra-planckian collisions / Gal'tsov, Dmitry (Moscow State U.) ; Spirin, Pavel (Moscow State U.) ; Tomaras, Theodore N. (CERN ; Crete U.)
A classical computation of gravitational bremsstrahlung in ultra-planckian collisions of massive point particles is presented in an arbitrary number d of toroidal or non-compact extra dimensions. Our method generalizes the post-linear formalism of General Relativity to the multidimensional case. [...]

Beyond the Planck scale / Giddings, Steven B. (UC, Santa Barbara ; CERN)
I outline motivations for believing that important quantum gravity effects lie beyond the Planck scale at both higher energies and longer distances and times. These motivations arise in part from the study of ultra-high energy scattering, and also from considerations in cosmology. [...]

Track reconstruction in the emulsion-lead target of the OPERA experiment using the ESS microscope / Arrabito, L. (Lyon, IPN) ; Bozza, C. (INFN, Salerno ; Salerno U.) ; Buontempo, S. The OPERA experiment, designed to conclusively prove the existence of $\rm \nu_\mu \to \nu_\tau$ oscillations in the atmospheric sector, makes use of a massive lead-nuclear emulsion target to observe the appearance of $\rm \nu_\tau$'s in the CNGS $\rm \nu_\mu$ beam. The location and analysis of the neutrino interactions in quasi real-time required the development of fast computer-controlled microscopes able to reconstruct particle tracks with sub-micron precision and high efficiency at a speed of 20 cm^2 / h. We have studied the performance of a new algorithm for electron/pion separation in an Emulsion Cloud Chamber (ECC) made of lead and nuclear emulsion films. The software for separation consists of two parts: a shower reconstruction algorithm and a Neural Network that assigns to each reconstructed shower the probability to be an electron or a pion. [...]

Study of charged hadron multiplicities in charged-current neutrino–lead interactions in the OPERA detector / OPERA Collaboration
The OPERA experiment was designed to search for $\nu_{\mu} \rightarrow \nu_{\tau}$ oscillations in appearance mode through the direct observation of tau neutrinos in the CNGS neutrino beam. In this paper, we report a study of the multiplicity of charged particles produced in charged-current neutrino interactions in lead. [...]
