Shielded Pair Method for Cylindrical Surface Resistance Measurement at Cryogenic Temperature / Brunner, Kristóf (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Caspers, Fritz (CERN)
The shielded pair resonator method was already used in the past at CERN to measure the surface resistivity of the LHC beam screen both at room temperature and cryogenic temperature. We have refined and adapted the measurement to be able to measure other types of beam screens and also to operate in a strong dipolar magnetic field. [...]

Use of a Massless Septum to Increase Slow-Extraction Efficiency / Brunner, Kristóf (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Stoel, Linda (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Wiesner, Christoph (CERN)
The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN provides slow-extracted beam for Fixed Target experiments in the North Area. For the higher extracted beam intensities requested by future experimental proposals, beam-loss induced activation will be one of the limiting factors for the availability of such a facility. [...]

SPS slow extraction losses and activation: update on recent improvements / Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Bertone, Caterina (CERN) ; Björkman, Daniel (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Brugger, Markus (CERN) ; Brunner, Kristóf (Wigner RCP, Budapest) et al.
Annual high intensity requests of over $1 \times 10^{19}$ protons on target (POT) from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) Fixed Target (FT) physics program continue, with the prospect of requests for even higher, unprecedented levels in the coming decade. A concerted and multifaceted R&D; effort has been launched to understand and reduce the slow extraction induced radioactivation of the SPS and to anticipate future experimental proposals, such as SHiP [1] at the SPS Beam Dump Facility (BDF) [2], which will request an additional $4 \times 10^{19}$ POT per year. Conceptual design of a high-field septum magnet using a superconducting shield and a canted-cosine-theta magnet / Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Novák, Martin (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Brunner, Kristóf (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Atanasov, Miroslav Georgiev (CERN) ; Sanz Ull, Alejandro (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) et al.
A zero-field cooled superconducting shield was previously proposed to realize a high-field (at least 3 T) septum magnet for the Future Circular Collider proton-proton ring. In this paper, we present the conceptual design of a complete septum magnet prototype including a shield with an optimized shape and a simple and cost-effective superconducting magnet using the canted cosine theta concept. Shielded Pair Method for Beam Screen Surface Resistance Measurement at Cryogenic Temperature / Brunner, Kristóf (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Krkotić, Patrick (CERN) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest)
The shielded pair resonator method is a useful tool in the measurement of accelerator components, such as the beam screens used in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the High-Luminosity (HL) LHC, or future accelerators. It can measure the resistive losses at several frequency points by separating the resistive losses on the sample from other sources of losses. [...]

Dump Line Layout and Beam Dilution Pattern Optimization of the Future Circular Collider / Facskó, Benedek (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN)
To avoid any damage to the beam dump target in the Future Circular Collider, the beam will be swept over its surface using oscillating kickers in the x/y planes with a 90-degree phase difference, and an amplitude changing in time, creating a spiral pattern. The ideal pattern must have an increasing spiral pitch towards smaller radii to produce an even energy deposition density. [...]

An MgB- Superconducting Shield Prototype for the Future Circular Collider Septum Magnet / Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; CERN) ; Giunchi, Giovanni (Edison SpA, Milan) ; Novák, Martin (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Brunner, Kristof (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Német, Aniko (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Atanasov, Miroslav (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Feuvrier, Jerome (CERN)
A passive superconducting shield was previously proposed to realize a high-field (above 3 T) septum magnet for the Future Circular Collider proton–proton ring (FCC-hh). This paper presents the experimental results of a potential shield material, MgB$_2$, at a temperature of 4.2 K. [...]

Optimization of Diffuser (Pre-Scatterer) Configurations for Slow Extraction Loss Reduction at Electrostatic Septa / Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Jorat, Louise Olivia (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Lolliot, Christophe (CERN) ; Nagaslaev, Vladimir (Fermilab) ; Stoel, Linda (CERN) et al.
Uncontrolled beam loss at the electrostatic septum is a performance limit for several existing or planned high power hadron accelerators delivering slow-extracted spills to fixed targets. A passive diffuser, or pre-scatterer, in a suitable configuration has been shown to reduce such beamloss significantly, with the actual gain factor depending on the parameters and details of the extraction process and hardware. Dielectric resonator to measure surface resistance of accelerator components at room temperature and 77 K / Brunner, Kristóf (CERN) ; Krkotić, Patrick (CERN) ; Pinto, Pedro Costa (CERN) ; Diaz-Rato, Eduardo Gibbons (CERN) ; Pfeiffer, Stephan (CERN) ; Vollenberg, Wilhelmus (CERN) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Barna, Dániel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Pont, Montse (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; O'Callaghan, Joan (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.)
We measured the surface resistance of titanium, amorphous carbon, and nonevaporable getter (NEG) coatings on copper samples, representative of surface treatments of beam-facing components in the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Measurements were done at room temperature as well as at liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) by means of a novel large dielectric resonator operating at 3.4 GHz. [...]

Septum Magnet using a Superconducting Shield / Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Burkart, Florian (CERN)
A field-free region can be created within a dipole magnet using a superconducting shield, which maintains persistent eddy currents induced during the ramp-up of the magnet. We will study the possibility to realize a high-field superconducting septum magnet using this principle. [...]
