Combined Effect of Beam-Beam Interaction and Beam Coupling Impedance in Future Circular Colliders
/ Zhang, Yuan (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys. ; Beijing, GUCAS) ; Carideo, Emanuela (CERN ; Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Migliorati, Mauro (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Wang, Na (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys.) ; Zobov, Mikhail (Frascati)
The future large scale electron-positron colliders, such as FCC-ee in Europe and CEPC in China, will rely on the crab waist collision scheme with a large Piwinski angle. Differently from the past generation colliders both luminosity and beam-beam tune shifts depend on the bunch length in such a collision scheme. [...]

Studies and Mitigation of Collective Effects in FCC-ee

In order to achieve a high luminosity in the future electron-positron circular collider (FCC-ee), very intense multi-bunch colliding beams should have nanometer scale transverse beam sizes at the collision points. For this purpose the emittances of the colliding beams are chosen to be very small, comparable to those of the modern synchrotron light sources, while the stored beam currents should be close to the best values achieved in the last generation of particle factories. Transverse and Longitudinal Single Bunch Instabilities in FCC-ee
/ Carideo, Emanuela (CERN ; INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; De Arcangelis, Daniele (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Migliorati, Mauro (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Quartullo, Danilo (CERN) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; Zobov, Mikhail (Frascati)
Improving the accuracy of the impedance model of an accelerator is important for keeping beam instabilities and power loss under control. Here, by means of the PyHEAD- TAIL tracking code, we first review the longitudinal mi- crowave instability threshold for FCC-ee by taking into ac- count the longitudinal impedance model evaluated so far. Building the impedance model of a real machine
/ Salvant, Benoit (CERN) ; Amorim, David (CERN ; Grenoble, INP) ; Antipov, Sergey (CERN) ; Arsenyev, Sergey (CERN) ; Beck, Mario (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Campelo, Jose Enrique (CERN) ; Carideo, Emanuela (CERN) ; Caspers, Fritz (CERN) et al.
A reliable impedance model of a particle accelerator can be built by combining the beam coupling impedances of all the components. This is a necessary step to be able to evaluate the machine performance limitations, identify the main contributors in case an impedance reduction is required, and study the interaction with other mechanisms such as optics nonlinearities, transverse damper, noise, space charge, electron cloud, beam-beam (in a collider). Mitigation of the impedance-related collective effects in FCC-ee
/ Zobov, Mikhail (Frascati) ; Belli, E (CERN) ; Kersevan, Roberto (CERN) ; Novokhatski, A (SLAC) ; Zadeh, S G (Rostock U.) ; Migliorati, Mauro (Rome U.)
In order to achieve a high luminosity in the electron-positron Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee), very intense multi-bunch beams with low emittances are accumulated in two separate rings and collide in two interaction regions exploiting the crab waist collision scheme. In order to preserve beam quality and to avoid collider performance degradation a careful study of beam collective effects is required. [...]

Studies and mitigation of TMCI in FCC-ee

Previous studies have identified turbulent mode coupling instability (TMCI) as one of the most severe single-bunch instabilities in the FCC-ee collider, potentially limiting its performance. Its threshold is influenced by both transverse and longitudinal wakefields arising from vacuum chamber resistive wall effects, discontinuities, and beam-beam interactions, the latter of which can be seen as a transverse cross-wake force. In this paper, we investigate the TMCI using the most recent collider parameters and an updated impedance model. Impedance modelling and collective effects in the Future Circular e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ Collider with 4 IPs

The FCC-ee impedance model is being constantly updated closely following the vacuum chamber design and parameters evolution. In particular, at present, a thicker NEG coating of 150 nm (instead of previous 100 nm) has been suggested by the vacuum experts, and a more realistic impedance model of the bellows has been investigated. Beside the machine operational aspects, beam instrumentation will play a key role in verifying and optimizing the machine to achieve the ambitious beam parameters and quality. [...]
