Studies of GEANT4 performance for different ATLAS detector geometries and code compilation methods / Marcon, Caterina (Lund University (SE)) ; Elen, Einar Alfred ; Smirnova, Oxana (Lund University (SE)) ; Morgan, Benjamin (University of Warwick (GB)) ; Smith, David (CERN) /ATLAS Collaboration
Full detector simulation is known to consume a large proportion of computing resources available to the LHC experiments, and reducing time consumed by simulation will allow for more profound physics studies. There are many avenues to exploit, and in this work we investigate those that do not require changes in the GEANT4 simulation suite. [...]

The new GeoModel suite, a lightweight detector description and visualization toolkit for HEP / Bianchi, Riccardo Maria (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Bandieramonte, Marilena (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Boudreau, Joseph (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Dell'Acqua, Andrea (CERN) ; Tsulaia, Vakhtang (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. (US)) /ATLAS Collaboration
The GeoModel toolkit is an open-source suite of standalone tools that empowers the user with lightweight tools to describe, visualize, test, and debug detector descriptions and geometries for HEP standalone studies and experiments. GeoModel has been designed with independence and responsiveness in mind and offers a development environment free of other large HEP tools and frameworks, and with a very quick development cycle. [...]

The GeoModel Tool Suite for Detector Description / Bandieramonte, Marilena (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Bianchi, Riccardo Maria (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Boudreau, Joseph (University of Pittsburgh (US)) ; Dell'Acqua, Andrea (CERN) ; Tsulaia, Vakhtang (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. (US)) /ATLAS Collaboration
The GeoModel class library for detector description has recently been released as an open-source package and extended with a set of tools to allow much of the detector modeling to be carried out in a lightweight development environment, outside of large and complex software frameworks. These tools include the mechanisms for creating persistent representation of the geometry, an interactive 3D visualization tool, various command-line tools, a plugin system, and XML and JSON parsers. Radiation Field Study in ATLAS: Timepix measurements vs Geant4 simulations / Billoud, Thomas (Czech Technical University in Prague (CZ)) ; Bergmann, Benedikt Ludwig (Czech Technical University in Prague (CZ)) ; Leroy, Claude (Universite de Montreal (CA)) ; Menke, Sven (Max Planck Society (DE)) ; Pospisil, Stanislav (Czech Technical University in Prague (CZ)) /ATLAS Collaboration
New methods to characterize radiation in the ATLAS experiment have been developed using Timepix detectors. Measurements of total ionizing dose (TID) and charged particle fluences at different locations in the experiment are used to benchmark Geant4 simulations..
