(Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) et al.
i-TED is an innovative detection system which exploits Compton imaging techniques to achieve a superior signal-to-background ratio in ($n,\gamma$) cross-section measurements using time-of-flight technique. This work presents the first experimental validation of the i-TED apparatus for high-resolution time-of-flight experiments and demonstrates for the first time the concept proposed for background rejection. Understanding the direct detection of charged particles with SiPMs
/ Carnesecchi, F. (CERN) ; Vignola, G. (DESY) ; Agrawal, N. (INFN, Bologna) ; Alici, A. (Bologna U.) ; Antonioli, P. (INFN, Bologna) ; Arcelli, S. (Bologna U.) ; Bellini, F. (Bologna U.) ; Cavazza, D. (INFN, Bologna) ; Cifarelli, L. (Bologna U.) ; Colocci, M. (Bologna U.) et al.
In this paper evidence that the increased response of SiPM sensors to the passage of charged particles is related mainly to Cherenkov light produced in the protection layer is reported. The response and timing properties of sensors with different protection layers have been studied..

Measurements of the Cherenkov effect in direct detection of charged particles with SiPMs
/ Carnesecchi, F. (CERN) ; Sabiu, B. (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Strazzi, S. (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Vignola, G. (INFN, Bologna) ; Agrawal, N. (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Alici, A. In this paper, different Silicon PhotoMultiplier (SiPM) sensors have been tested with charged particles to characterize the Cherenkov light produced in the sensor protection layer. A careful position scan of the SiPM response has been performed with different prototypes, confirming the large number of firing cells and proving almost full efficiency, with the SiPM filling factor essentially negligible. Strong enhancement of electromagnetic shower development induced by high-energy photons in a thick oriented tungsten crystal

We have observed a significant enhancement in the energy deposition by $25$--$100~\mathrm{GeV}$ photons in a $1~\mathrm{cm}$ thick tungsten crystal oriented along its $\langle 111 \rangle$ lattice axes. At $100~\mathrm{GeV}$, this enhancement, with respect to the value observed without axial alignment, is more than twofold. [...]

Measurement of the $^{244}Cm$ and $^{246}Cm$ neutron-induced capture cross sections at the n_TOF facility
/ Alcayne, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Kimura, A (JAERI, Tokai) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Martínez, T (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Andrzejewski, J (Lodz U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bacak, M (CERN ; IRFU, Saclay ; Vienna, Tech. U.) et al.
The neutron capture reactions of the $^{244}$Cm and $^{246}$Cm isotopes open the path for the formation of heavier Cm isotopes and heavier elements such as Bk and Cf in a nuclear reactor. In addition, both isotopes belong to the minor actinides with a large contribution to the decay heat and to the neutron emission in irradiated fuels. [...]

Coded masks for imaging of neutrino events
/ NU@FNAL Collaboration
The capture of scintillation light emitted by liquid Argon and Xenon under molecular excitations by charged particles is still a challenging task. Here we present a first attempt to design a device able to grab sufficiently high luminosity in order to reconstruct the path of ionizing particles. [...]
