The Level-2 Trigger Pilot Project of ATLAS, one of the two general purpose LHC experiments, is part of the on-going program to develop the ATLAS high-level triggers (HLT). The Level-2 Trigger will receive events at up to 100 kHz, which has to be reduced to a rate suitable for full event-building of the order of 1 kHz. [...]

Experience with multi-threaded C++ applications in the ATLAS DataFlow software / Gadomski, S. (Bern U.) ; Abolins, M (Michigan State U.) ; Barisonzi, M (NIKHEF, Amsterdam) ; Beck, H P (Bern U.) ; Beretta, M (LNF, Frascati) ; Blair, R (Argonne Nat Lab Argonne) ; Bogaerts, J A C (CERN) ; Boterenbrood, H (NIKHEF Amsterdam) ; Botterill, David R (RAL Chilton) ; Ciobotaru, M (CERN) et al.
The DataFlow is sub-system of the ATLAS data acquisition responsible for the reception, buffering and subsequent movement of partial and full event data to the higher level triggers: Level 2 and Event Filter. The design of the software is based on OO methodology and its implementation relies heavily on the use of posix threads and the Standard Template Library. [...]

Performance of the ATLAS DAQ DataFlow system ; 2004 ed. / Ünel, G (CERN) ; Abolins, M ; Beck, H P ; Beretta, M ; Blair, R ; Bogaerts, J A C (CERN) ; Botterill, David R ; Ciobotaru, M (CERN) ; Corso-Radu, A (CERN) ; Cranfield, R et al.
The baseline DAQ architecture of the ATLAS Experiment at LHC is introduced and its present implementation and the performance of the DAQ components as measured in a laboratory environment are summarized. It will be shown that the discrete event simulation model of the DAQ system, tuned using these measurements, does predict the behaviour of the prototype configurations well, after which, predictions for the final ATLAS system are presented [...]
