Heavy Flavor Kinematic Correlations in Cold Nuclear Matter
/ Vogt, Ramona (speaker) (LLNL)
It has been proposed that the azimuthal distributions of heavy flavor quark-antiquark pairs may be modified in the medium of a heavy-ion collision. This assumption was tested through next-to-leading order (NLO) calculations of the azimuthal distribution, $d\sigma/d\phi$, including transverse momentum broadening, employing $\langle k_T^2 \rangle$ and fragmentation in exclusive $Q \overline Q$ pair production [1].
The results have been compared to $p+p$ and $p + \overline p$ data on $Q \overline Q$ azimuthal correlations [1] as well as $b \overline b$ mass, pair $p_T$, rapidity, rapidity gap, $p_T$ asymmetry and azimuthal difference correlations in $p+p$ collisions through their decays to $J/\psi J/\psi$, as measured by LHCb [2]. Predictions for Cold Nuclear Matter Effects in $p+$Pb Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 8.16$ TeV
/ Albacete, Javier L. (CAFPE, Granada ; Granada U., Theor. Phys. Astrophys.) ; Arleo, François (Ecole Polytechnique) ; Barnaföldi, Gergely G. (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Bíró, Gábor (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; Eotvos U.) ; d'Enterria, David (CERN) ; Ducloué, Bertrand (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Eskola, Kari J. (Jyvaskyla U. ; Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Ferreiro, Elena G. (Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Gyulassy, Miklos (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; Columbia U. ; LBNL, NSD ; CCNU, Wuhan, Inst. Part. Phys.) ; Harangozó, Szilvester Miklós (Wigner RCP, Budapest ; Eotvos U.) et al.
Predictions for cold nuclear matter effects on charged hadrons, identified light hadrons, quarkonium and heavy flavor hadrons, Drell-Yan dileptons, jets, photons, gauge bosons and top quarks produced in $p+$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 8.16$ TeV are compiled and, where possible, compared to each other. Predictions of the normalized ratios of $p+$Pb to $p+p$ cross sections are also presented for most of the observables, providing new insights into the expected role of cold nuclear matter effects. Predictions made in Albacete {\it et al} prior to the LHC $p+$Pb run at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5$ TeV are compared to currently available data. Some predictions shown here have been updated by including the same experimental cuts as the data. [...]

Energy dependence of $J/\psi$ absorption in proton-nucleus collisions
/ Lourenco, Carlos (CERN) ; Vogt, Ramona (LLNL, Livermore ; UC, Davis) ; Woehri, Hermine K. (LIP, Lisbon)
Charmonium states are expected to be considerably suppressed in the case of quark-gluon plasma formation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. However, a robust identification of suppression patterns as signatures of a deconfined QCD medium requires a detailed understanding of the "normal nuclear absorption" already present in proton-nucleus collisions, where the charmonium production cross sections increase less than linearly with the number of target nucleons.
