Performance Analysis of HD1: A 16 Tesla Nb$_3$Sn Dipole Magnet / Mattafirri, S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bartlett, S E (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bish, P A (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Dietderich, D R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Ferracin, P (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Gourlay, S A (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hannaford, C R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hafalia, A R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Lau, W G (LBNL, Berkeley) et al.
The Superconducting Magnet Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has been developing technology for high field accelerator magnets from brittle conductors. HD1 is a single bore block dipole magnet using two, double-layer Nb$_3$Sn flat racetrack coils. [...]

Fabrication and component testing results for a Nb$_3$Sn dipole magnet / Dell'Orco, D (LBL, Berkeley) ; Scanlan, R M (LBL, Berkeley) ; Taylor, C E (LBL, Berkeley) ; Lietzke, A (LBL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, S (LBL, Berkeley) ; van Oort, J M (LBL, Berkeley) ; McInturff, A D (LBL, Berkeley)
At present, the maximum field achieved in accelerator R&D; dipoles is slightly over 10 T, with NbTi conductor at 1.8 K. Although Nb$_3$Sn has the potential to achieve much higher fields, none of the previous dipoles constructed from Nb$_3$Sn have broken the 10 T barrier. [...]

HD1: design and fabrication of a 16 Tesla Nb$_3$Sn dipole magnet / Hafalia, A R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bartlett, S E (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Chiesa, L (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Dietderich, D R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Ferracin, P (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Goli, M (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Gourlay, S A (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hannaford, C R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Higley, H (LBNL, Berkeley) et al.
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Superconducting Magnet Group has completed the design, fabrication and test of HD1, a 16 T block-coil dipole magnet. State of the art Nb$_3$Sn conductor was wound in double-layer racetrack coils and supported by an iron yoke and a tensioned aluminum shell. [...]

Recent progress in neutrino factory and muon collider research within the Muon Collaboration / International Muon Collaboration
We describe the status of our effort to realize a first neutrino factory and the progress made in understanding the problems associated with the collection and cooling of muons towards that end. We summarize the physics that can be done with neutrino factories as well as with intense cold beams of muons. [...]

Costs of high-field superconducting strands for particle accelerator magnets / Cooley, L D ; Ghosh, A K ; Scanlan, R M
The costs of superconducting magnet strands are compared by calculating a 'production scaling factor' P that relates purchase data to the cost of raw materials. Using a consistent method, we normalize for different conductor geometries and strand diameters to arrive at cost indices in $ kg/sup -1/, $ m/sup -1/, and $ kA/sup -1/ m/sup -1/. [...]
