HL-LHC IT STRING: Status and Perspectives / Bajko, M (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bednarek, M J (CERN) ; Bertolasi, S (CERN) ; Bertone, C (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Coulot, E (CERN) ; Coupat, C (CERN) et al.
The HL-LHC IT STRING, an integrated test stand for the major components of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet (IT) zone, is in its construction phase in a surface building at CERN. The main motivation is to study and validate the collective behavior of the different systems: magnets, circuit protection, cryogenics for magnets and superconducting link, magnet powering, vacuum, alignment, and interconnections between magnets and superconducting link. Test Results From CD1 Short CCT Nb-Sn Dipole Demonstrator and Considerations About CCT Technology for the FCC-Hh Main Dipole / Auchmann, B (PSI, Villigen ; CERN) ; Araujo, D M (PSI, Villigen) ; Brem, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Daly, M (PSI, Villigen) ; Felder, R (PSI, Villigen) ; Feuvrier, J (CERN) ; Hug, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Kirby, O (PSI, Villigen) ; Mangiarotti, F (CERN) ; Milanese, A (CERN) et al.
In this article, we attempt to summarize the 5-year long involvement of PSI through the CHART MagDev program with R&D; on the Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) technology as a candidate for an FCC-hh main dipole magnet. We present the test results of the Canted Dipole 1 (CD1) 1-m-long 10-T Nb$_{3}$Sn demonstrator magnet, as well as a subjective list of ‘pros and cons' of CCT for the FCC-hh that we compiled along the way. Thermohydraulic simulation of quenches and quench recovery for the HL-LHC IT String test bench at CERN / Rolando, G (CERN) ; Wanninger, A (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN)
In the framework of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, a new test system - the Inner Triplet (IT) magnets String - for the characterization and validation of the collective behaviour of a 60 m long string of magnets is being built in the SM18 cryogenic test facility at CERN. Among the main objectives of the IT String is the assessment of the magnet performance during the resistive transition from the superconducting to the normal state (quench) when energies up to 39.1 MJ are released into the magnet cold mass and into the helium. [...]

Functional analysis and design of the cryogenic system for the HL-LHC IT String test bench at CERN / Rolando, G (CERN) ; Sisti, M (CERN) ; Duran Lucas, O (CERN) ; Wanninger, A (CERN) ; Mouleyre, J (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN)
The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is a project aiming to upgrade the LHC collider to maintain scientific progress and exploit its full capacity. In the HL-LHC configuration, the Inner Triplet (IT) magnets of the present LHC will be replaced by a new set of higher performance magnets. [...]

The Inner Triplet String Facility for HL-LHC: Design and Planning / Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Bertolasi, Stefano (CERN) ; Bertone, Caterina (CERN) ; Blanchard, Sebastien (CERN) ; Bozzini, Davide (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Cruikshank, Paul (CERN) ; De Luca, Davide (CERN) ; Dos Santos, Nuno (CERN) ; Dragoni, Francesco (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the HL-LHC project, full-scale integration and operational tests of the superconducting magnet chain, from the inner triplet quadrupoles up to the first separation/recombination dipole, are planned in conditions as similar as possible to the final set-up in the LHC tunnel. The IT String includes all of the required systems for operation at nominal conditions, such as vacuum, cryogenics, warm and cold powering equipment, and protection systems. [...]

Mechanical Structure for the PSI Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) Magnet Program / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Calzolaio, Ciro (PSI, Villigen) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Rolando, Gabriella (PSI, Villigen) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen)
Abstract: The Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) technology has the potential, by its intrinsic stress-management, to lower coil stresses in high-field accelerator magnets. This is especially relevant for Nb3Sn magnets, which may be subject to irreversible degradation if the coil stresses exceed critical values. [...]

The Baby MIND spectrometer is designed to measure the momentum and charge of muons from neutrino interactions in water and hydrocarbon targets at the J-PARC T59 (WAGASCI) experiment. The WAGASCI experiment will measure the ratio of neutrino charged current interaction cross-sections on water and hydrocarbon aiming at reducing systematic errors in neutrino oscillation analyses at T2K. Electromechanical Design of a 16-T CCT Twin-Aperture Dipole for FCC / Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Gao, Jiani (PSI, Villigen) ; Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Negrazus, Marco (PSI, Villigen) ; Rolando, Gabriella (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stéphane (PSI, Villigen)
Canted-cosine-theta (CCT) technology has been studied for its suitability for a future-circular-collider (FCC) main dipole in terms of magnetic and mechanical performance, electrothermal protectability, as well as efficiency. In this paper, we present lessons learnt from our search for efficient CCT solutions by means of two-dimensional (2-D) magnetic and mechanical simulations, discuss the 3-D periodic mechanical model, as well as 3-D electromagnetic analysis of the end regions.
