Simulation Tools for Heavy-Ion Tracking and Collimation
/ Hermes, P.D. (CERN) ; Bruce, R. (CERN) ; Cerutti, F. (CERN) ; Ferrari, A. (CERN) ; Jowett, J.M. (CERN) ; Lechner, A. (CERN) ; Mereghetti, A. (CERN) ; Mirarchi, D. (CERN) ; Ortega, P.G. (CERN) ; Redaelli, S. (CERN) et al.
The LHC collimation system, which protects the LHC hardware from undesired beam loss, is less efficient with heavy-ion beams than with proton beams due to fragmentation into other nuclides inside the LHC collimators. Reliable simulation tools are required to estimate critical losses of particles scattered out of the collimation system which may quench the superconducting LHC magnets. [...]

Performance evaluation of MACACO: a multilayer Compton camera
/ Muñoz, Enrique (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Barrio, John (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Etxebeste, Ane (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Ortega, Pablo G (CERN ; Valencia U., IFIC) ; Lacasta, Carlos (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Oliver, Josep F (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Solaz, Carles (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Llosá, Gabriela (Valencia U., IFIC)
Compton imaging devices have been proposed and studied for a wide range of applications. We have developed a Compton camera prototype which can be operated with two or three detector layers based on monolithic lanthanum bromide (${\rm LaBr}_{3}$ ) crystals coupled to silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs), to be used for proton range verification in hadron therapy. Molecular components in $\mathbf{D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)}$ and $\mathbf{D_{s1}(2460)}$ mesons
/ Ortega, Pablo G. (CERN) ; Segovia, Jorge (Munich, Tech. U.) ; Entem, David R. (Salamanca U.) ; Fernández, Francisco (Salamanca U.)
Different experiments have confirmed that the $D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ mesons are very narrow states located, respectively, below the $DK$ and $D^{\ast}K$ thresholds. This is markedly in contrast with the expectations of naive quark models and heavy quark symmetry. [...]

Measurement of charged particle yields from therapeutic beams in view of the design of an innovative hadrontherapy dose monitor
/ Battistoni, G (INFN, Milan) ; Bellini, F (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Bini, F (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Collamati, F (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Collini, F (INFN, Milan) ; De Lucia, E (Frascati) ; Durante, M (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Faccini, R (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Ferroni, F (Rome U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Frallicciardi, P M (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome) et al.
Particle Therapy (PT) is an emerging technique, which makes use of charged particles to efficiently cure different kinds of solid tumors. The high precision in the hadrons dose deposition requires an accurate monitoring to prevent the risk of under-dosage of the cancer region or of over-dosage of healthy tissues. [...]

Noise evaluation of Compton camera imaging for proton therapy

Compton Cameras emerged as an alternative for real-time dose monitoring techniques for Particle Therapy (PT), based on the detection of prompt-gammas. As a consequence of the Compton scattering process, the gamma origin point can be restricted onto the surface of a cone (Compton cone). [...]
