Excited states of the neutron-rich niobium isotopes Nb96,97,98,4196,97,98,99 have been populated in two experiments which used fusion-fission and multinucleon binary grazing reactions to populate high-spin yrast states. In the multinucleon-transfer experiment, a 530-MeV beam of Zr96 ions was incident on a thin Sn124 target; projectile-like ejectiles were detected and identified using the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer and the associated γ rays were detected using the CLARA array of Ge detectors. New reaction chamber for transient field $g$ -factor measurements with radioactive ion beams
/ Illana, A (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Perea, A (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Nácher, E (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Orlandi, R (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) ; Jungclaus, A (Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia)
A new reaction chamber has been designed and constructed to measure $g$ -factors of short-lived excited states using the Transient Field technique in combination with Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics. In this paper we will discuss several important aspects which have to be considered in order to successfully carry out this type of measurement with radioactive ion beams, instead of the stable beams used in a wide range of experiments in the past. Cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams: A spectroscopic tool for neutron-rich nuclei
/ Bottoni, S (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan ; Leuven U.) ; Leoni, S (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Fornal, B (Cracow, INP) ; Raabe, R (Leuven U.) ; Rusek, K (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab) ; Benzoni, G (INFN, Milan) ; Bracco, A (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Crespi, F C L (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Morales, A I (INFN, Milan) ; Bednarczyk, P (Cracow, INP) et al.
An exploratory experiment performed at REX-ISOLDE to investigate cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams in inverse kinematics is presented. The aim of the experiment was to test the potential of cluster-transfer reactions at the Coulomb barrier as a mechanism to explore the structure of exotic neutron-rich nuclei. [...]

/ Wrzosek-Lipska, K (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab ; Leuven U.) ; Rezynkina, K (Leuven U. ; U. Strasbourg) ; Bree, N (Leuven U.) ; Zielińska, M (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab ; IRFU, Saclay) ; Gaffney, L P (Liverpool U. ; Leuven U. ; CERN ; West Scotland U.) ; Petts, A (Liverpool U.) ; Andreyev, A (Leuven U. ; York U., England) ; Bastin, B (Leuven U. ; GANIL) ; Bender, M (Lyon, IPN) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) et al.
The neutron-deficient mercury isotopes serve as a classical example of shape coexistence, whereby at low energy near-degenerate nuclear states characterized by different shapes appear. The electromagnetic structure of even-mass $^{182-188}$ Hg isotopes was studied using safe-energy Coulomb excitation of neutron-deficient mercury beams delivered by the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. Fragment mass distributions from fission of excited compound nucleus $^{178}$Pt have been deduced from the measured fragment velocities. The $^{178}$Pt nucleus was created at the JAEA tandem facility in a complete fusion reaction $^{36}$Ar + $^{142}$Nd, at beam energies of 155, 170 and 180 MeV. [...]

EXILL—a high-efficiency, high-resolution setup for $\gamma$-spectroscopy at an intense cold neutron beam facility

In the EXILL campaign a highly efficient array of high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors was operated at the cold neutron beam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) to carry out nuclear structure studies, via measurements of γ-rays following neutron-induced capture and fission reactions. The setup consisted of a collimation system producing a pencil beam with a thermal capture equivalent flux of about 10(8) n s(−)(1)cm(−)(2) at the target position and negligible neutron halo. [...]
