Status of ESS linac upgrade studies for ESSnuSB / Gålnander, Björn (ESS, Lund) ; Collins, Max (Lund U. (main)) ; Eshraqi, Mohammad (ESS, Lund) ; Farricker, Aaron (CERN) ; Martins, Carlos (ESS, Lund) ; Miyamoto, Ryoichi (ESS, Lund)
The European Spallation Source (ESS), currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, is the world's most powerful neutron spallation source, with an average power of 5 MW at 2.0 GeV. In the ESS neutrino Super Beam Project (ESSnuSB) it is proposed to utilise this powerful accelerator as a proton driver for a neutrino beam that will be sent to a large underground Cherenkov detector in Garpenberg, mid-Sweden. The BRAN luminosity detectors for the LHC / Matis, Howard S. (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Placidi, Massimo (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Ratti, Alessandro (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Turner, William C. (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Miyamoto, Ryoichi (ESS, Lund)
This paper describes the several phases which led, from the conceptual design, prototyping, construction and tests with beam, to the installation and operation of the BRAN (Beam RAte of Neutrals) relative luminosity monitors for the LHC. The detectors have been operating since 2009 to contribute, optimize and maintain the accelerator performance in the two high luminosity interaction regions (IR), the IR1 (ATLAS) and the IR5 (CMS). The opportunity offered by the ESSnuSB project to exploit the larger leptonic CP violation signal at the second oscillation maximum and the requirements of this project on the ESS accelerator complex / Wildner, Elena (CERN) ; Baussan, E. Very intense neutrino beams and large neutrino detectors will be needed to enable the discovery of CP violation in the leptonic sector. The European Spallation Source (ESS), currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, is a research center that will provide, by 2023, the world's most powerful neutron source. [...]

Tune Studies with Beam-Beam Effects in LHC / Paret, Stefan (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Qiang, Ji (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Alemany-Fernandez, Reyes (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cornelis, Karel (CERN) ; Fitterer, Miriam (CERN) ; Giachino, Rossano (CERN) ; Herr, Werner (CERN) ; Macpherson, Alick (CERN) et al.
In high brightness colliders, the tune spread due to the collisions has a significant impact on the quality of the beams. The impact of the working point on emittance growth and beam lifetime has been observed in beam experiments in LHC. [...]

Operational Results of the LHC Luminosity Monitors until LS1 / Ratti, Alessandro (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Hedges, Samuel (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Jones, John (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Matis, Howard (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Placidi, Massimo (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Turner, William (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Vytla, Vamsi (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Miyamoto, Ryoichi (ESS, Lund)
The monitors for the high luminosity regions in the LHC have been operating since 2009 to optimize the LHC's luminosity. The devices are gas ionization chambers inside the neutral particle absorber 140 m from the interaction point and monitor showers produced by high energy neutral particles from the collisions. [...]

In 2011, the LHC has delivered collisions with different optics configurations in the four interaction points, at an operating energy of 3.5 TeV. The performance has been pushed during the year until a final configuration with 3 IPs squeezed to 1 m was achieved. [...]

A very intense neutrino super beam experiment for leptonic CP violation discovery based on the European spallation source linac / ESSnuSB Collaboration
Very intense neutrino beams and large neutrino detectors will be needed in order to enable the discovery of CP violation in the leptonic sector. We propose to use the proton linac of the European Spallation Source currently under construction in Lund, Sweden to deliver, in parallel with the spallation neutron production, a very intense, cost effective and high performance neutrino beam. Automatic Correction of Betatron Coupling in the LHC Using Injection Oscillations / Persson, T (CERN) ; Bach, T (CERN) ; Jacquet, D (CERN) ; Kain, V (CERN) ; Levinsen, Y (CERN) ; McAteer, M-J (CERN) ; Maclean, E (CERN) ; Skowronski, P (CERN) ; Tomas, R (CERN) ; Vanbavinckhove, G (CERN) et al.
The control of the betatron coupling at injection and during the energy ramp is critical for the safe operation of the tune feedback and for the dynamic aperture. In the LHC every fill is preceded by the injection of a pilot bunch with low intensity. [...]
