Axion search with BabyIAXO in view of IAXO / Abeln, A. (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys.) ; Altenmüller, K. (Zaragoza U.) ; Cuendis, S. Arguedas (CERN) ; Armengaud, E. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Attié, D. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Aune, S. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Basso, S. (Brera Observ.) ; Bergé, L. (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Biasuzzi, B. (IRFU, Saclay) ; De Sousa, P.T.C. Borges (CERN) et al.
Axions are a natural consequence of the Peccei-Quinn mechanism, the most compelling solution to the strong-CP problem. Similar axion-like particles (ALPs) also appear in a number of possible extensions of the Standard Model, notably in string theories. [...]

Conceptual Design of BabyIAXO, the intermediate stage towards the International Axion Observatory / IAXO Collaboration
This article describes BabyIAXO, an intermediate experimental stage of the International Axion Observatory (IAXO), proposed to be sited at DESY. IAXO is a large-scale axion helioscope that will look for axions and axion-like particles (ALPs), produced in the Sun, with unprecedented sensitivity. [...]

Next Generation Search for Axion and ALP Dark Matter with the International Axion Observatory / Ruz, J (LLNL, Livermore) ; Vogel, J K (LLNL, Livermore) ; Armengaud, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Attie, D (IRFU, Saclay) ; Basso, S (Brera Observ.) ; Brun, P (IRFU, Saclay) ; Bykovskiy, N (CERN) ; Carmona, J M (Zaragoza U.) ; Castel, J F (Zaragoza U.) ; Cebrián, S (Zaragoza U.) et al.
More than 80 years after the postulation of dark matter, its nature remains one of the fundamental questions in cosmology. Axions are currently one of the leading candidates for the hypothetical, non-baryonic dark matter that is expected to account for about 25% of the energy density of the Universe. [...]

Axion-electron decoupling in nucleophobic axion models / Björkeroth, Fredrik (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Di Luzio, Luca (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Mescia, Federico (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Nardi, Enrico (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Panci, Paolo (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U. ; CERN ; Gran Sasso) ; Ziegler, Robert (CERN)
The strongest upper bounds on the axion mass come from astrophysical observations like the neutrino burst duration of SN1987A, which depends on the axion couplings to nucleons, or the white-dwarf cooling rates and red-giant evolution, which involve the axion-electron coupling. It has been recently argued that in variants of DFSZ models with generation-dependent Peccei-Quinn charges an approximate axion-nucleon decoupling can occur, strongly relaxing the SN1987A bound. Physics potential of the International Axion Observatory (IAXO) / IAXO Collaboration
We review the physics potential of a next generation search for solar axions: the International Axion Observatory (IAXO). Endowed with a sensitivity to discover axion-like particles (ALPs) with a coupling to photons as small as $g_{a\gamma}\sim 10^{-12}$ GeV$^{-1}$, or to electrons $g_{ae}\sim$10$^{-13}$, IAXO has the potential to find the QCD axion in the 1 meV$\sim$1 eV mass range where it solves the strong CP problem, can account for the cold dark matter of the Universe and be responsible for the anomalous cooling observed in a number of stellar systems. [...]

Astrophobic Axions / Di Luzio, Luca (Durham U., IPPP) ; Mescia, Federico (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Nardi, Enrico (Frascati) ; Panci, Paolo (CERN) ; Ziegler, Robert (CERN)
We propose a class of axion models with generation dependent Peccei-Quinn charges for the known fermions that allow to suppress the axion couplings to nucleons and electrons. Astrophysical limits are thus relaxed, allowing for axion masses up to ${\cal O}(0.1)$ eV. [...]

Axions and high-energy cosmic rays: Can the relic axion density be measured? / Espriu, D. (CERN) ; Mescia, F. (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Renau, A. (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.)
In a previous work we investigated the propagation of fast moving charged particles in a spatially constant but slowly time dependent pseudoscalar background, such as the one provided by cold relic axions. The background induces cosmic rays to radiate in the low-energy spectrum. [...]

The axion shield / Andrianov, A.A. (St. Petersburg State U.) ; Espriu, D. (CERN) ; Mescia, F. (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Renau, A. (Barcelona U., ECM ; ICC, Barcelona U.)
We investigate the propagation of a charged particle in a spatially constant, but time dependent, pseudoscalar background. Physically this pseudoscalar background could be provided by a relic axion density. [...]

Flavor Physics in the Quark Sector / Antonelli, Mario (Frascati) ; Asner, David Mark (Carleton U.) ; Bauer, D. (Imperial Coll., London) ; Becher, Thomas G. (Fermilab) ; Beneke, M. (Aachen, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Bevan, Adrian John (Queen Mary, U. of London) ; Blanke, Monika (Munich, Max Planck Inst. ; Munich, Tech. U.) ; Bloise, C. (Frascati) ; Bona, Marcella (CERN) ; Bondar, Alexander E. (Novosibirsk, IYF) et al.
One of the major challenges of particle physics has been to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of quark flavor and measurements and theoretical interpretations of their results have advanced tremendously: apart from masses and quantum numbers of flavor particles, there now exist detailed measurements of the characteristics of their interactions allowing stringent tests of Standard Model predictions. Among the most interesting phenomena of flavor physics is the violation of the CP symmetry that has been subtle and difficult to explore. [...]
