Advanced beam diagnostics for antiproton beams at keV beam energies are very important for the successful operation and continuous optimization of low energy storage rings and associated beam lines to the experiments. Manifold challenges arise from the low energy and intensity of the beam, its pulse structure and low repetition rate. [...]

A supersonic gas jet beam profile monitor has been developed by the QUASAR Group at the Cockcroft Institute, UK. It creates a supersonic gas curtain which interacts with the primary beam, and then images the beam cross-section by collecting the generated ions. [...]

Characterizing Supersonic Gas Jet-based Beam Profile Monitors / Zhang, Hao (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Alexandrova, Alexandra (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main) ; Nishina Ctr., RIKEN) ; Welsch, Carsten (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main))
The next generation of high power, high intensity accelerators requires non-invasive diagnostics, particularly beam profile monitors. Residual gas-based diagnostics such as ionization beam profile or beam induced fluorescence monitors have been used to replace commonly used scintillating screens. [...]

Development of a Supersonic Gas-jet Monitor to Measure Beam Profile Non-destructively / Zhang, Hao (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Jeff, Adam (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Tzoganis, Vasilis (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main) ; Nishina Ctr., RIKEN) ; Welsch, Carsten (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main))
The measurement of the transverse beam profile is a great challenge for high intensity, high brightness and high power particle beams due to their destructive power. Current non-destructive methods such as residual gas monitors and beam induced fluorescence monitors either require a rather long integration time or residual gas pressures in the order of 10⁻⁷ mbar to make meaningful measurements. [...]

Non-invasive Beam Profile Monitoring / Welsch, Carsten (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Cybulski, Tomasz (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Jeff, Adam (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Tzoganis, Vasilis (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; RIKEN (main)) ; Zhang, Hao (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main))
State-of-the-art high energy and high intensity accelerators require new approaches to transverse beam profile monitoring as many established techniques will no longer work due to the high power stored in the beam. In addition, many accelerator applications such as ion beam cancer therapy or material irradiation would benefit significantly from the availability of non-invasive beam profile monitors. [...]
