Diamond Monitor Based Beam Loss Measurements in the LHC
/ Xu, Chen (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Domingues Sousa, Fernando (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (Unlisted, AT)
Two pCVD Diamond based Beam Loss Monitors (dBLM) are installed near the primary collimators of the LHC, with a dedicated, commercial readout-system used to acquire their signals. The system is simultaneously able to produce a high sampling rate waveform and provide a real-time beam loss histogram for all bunches in the machine. [...]

Design of a Laser-based Profile Monitor for LINAC4 Commissioning at 50 MeV and 100 MeV
/ Hofmann, Thomas (CERN) ; Boorman, Gary (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bosco, Alessio (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Griesmayer, Erich (CIVIDEC, Vienna) ; Raich, Uli (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN)
A laser-based profile monitor has been designed for commissioning of CERN's LINAC4 accelerator at 50 MeV and 100 MeV, as part of the development of a non-destructive profile and emittance monitor foreseen for the final 160 MeV beam. The system is based on a low power laser which is scanned through the H⁻ beam. [...]

Beam Loss Monitors for the Cryogenic LHC Magnets
/ Bartosik, Marcin R (CERN) ; Alexopoulos, Andreas (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Eremin, Vladimir (Ioffe Phys. Tech. Inst.) ; Griesmayer, Erich (IAEA, Vienna) ; Sapinski, Mariusz (CERN) ; Verbitskaya, Elena (Ioffe Phys. Tech. Inst.)
The Beam Loss Monitoring system of the Large Hadron Collider close to the interaction points contains mostly gas ionization chambers working at room temperature, located far from the superconducting coils of the magnets. The system records particles lost from circulating proton beams, but is also sensitive to particles coming from the experimental collisions, which do not contribute significantly to the heat deposition in the superconducting coils. [...]

Beam Losses at CERNs PS and SPS Measured with Diamond Particle Detectors
/ Burkart, Florian (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (Unlisted, AT) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Stein, Oliver (CERN)
Diamond particle detectors have been used in the LHC to measure fast particle losses with a nanosecond time resolution. In addition, these detectors were installed in the PS and the SPS. [...]

Investigation of Injection Losses at the Large Hadron Collider with Diamond Based Particle Detectors
/ Stein, Oliver (CERN ; U. Hamburg (main)) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Burkart, Florian (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (IAEA, Vienna) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Schmidt, Ruediger (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN)
During the operation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2015, increased injection losses were observed. To minimize stress on accelerator components in the injection regions of the LHC and to guarantee an efficient operation these losses needed to be understood and possible mitigation techniques should be studied. [...]

Response of Polycrystalline Diamond Particle Detectors Measured with a High Intensity Electron Beam
/ Stein, Oliver (CERN ; Hamburg U.) ; Burkart, Florian (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (CIVIDEC Instrumentation, Vienna) ; Schmidt, Ruediger (CERN) ; Sørensen, Christian (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN)
Comprehensive understanding of beam losses in the LHC is required to ensure full machine protection and efficient operation. The existing BLM system using ionization chambers is not adequate to resolve losses with a time resolution below some 10 us. [...]

Experimental Results from the Characterization of Diamond Particle Detectors with a High Intensity Electron Beam
/ Burkart, Florian (CERN) ; Schmidt, Ruediger (CERN) ; Stein, Oliver (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Griesmayer, Erich (IAEA, Vienna)
Understanding the sources of ultra-fast failures, with durations of less than 3 LHC turns, is important for a safe operation of the LHC, as only passive protection is possible in these time scales. Diamond particle detectors with bunch-by-bunch resolution and high dynamic range have been successfully used to improve the understanding of some new ultra-fast loss mechanisms discovered in the LHC. Performance of the ATLAS Trigger System in 2010
/ ATLAS Collaboration
Proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and heavy ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV were produced by the LHC and recorded using the ATLAS experiment's trigger system in 2010. The LHC is designed with a maximum bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz and the ATLAS trigger system is designed to record approximately 200 of these per second [...]
