CERN Linac4 Chopper Dump: Operational Experience and Future Upgrades / Sharp, Calum (CERN) ; Andreu Muñoz, Pablo (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Costa, Gabriele (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; Franqueira Ximenes, Rui (CERN) ; Grenier, Damien (CERN) ; Grenier-Boley, Edouard (CERN) ; Hunt, James (CERN) ; Krainer, Alexander (CERN) et al.
The Chopper Dump in the Linac4 accelerator at CERN is a beam-intercepting device responsible for the absorption of the 3 MeV H⁻ ion beam produced by the Linac4 source and deflected upstream by an electromagnetic chopper. It allows a portion of the beam, which would otherwise fall into the unstable region of the radiofrequency buckets in the Proton Synchrotron Booster, to be dumped at low energy with minimal induced radiation. The SHiP experiment at the proposed CERN SPS Beam Dump Facility / SHiP Collaboration
The Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) Collaboration has proposed a general-purpose experimental facility operating in beam-dump mode at the CERN SPS accelerator to search for light, feebly interacting particles. The SHiP experiment incorporates two complementary detectors. [...]

Track reconstruction and matching between emulsion and silicon pixel detectors for the SHiP-charm experiment / SHiP Collaboration
In July 2018 an optimization run for the proposed charm cross section measurement for SHiP was performed at the CERN SPS. A heavy, moving target instrumented with nuclear emulsion films followed by a silicon pixel tracker was installed in front of the Goliath magnet at the H4 proton beamline. [...]

Design and behaviour of the Large Hadron Collider external beam dumps capable of receiving 539 MJ/dump / Maestre, J. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Torregrosa, C. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Kershaw, K. Two 6-t beam dumps, made of a graphite core encapsulated in a stainless steel vessel, are used to absorb the energy of the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) intense proton beams during operation of the accelerator. Operational issues started to appear in 2015 during LHC Run 2 (2014-2018) as a consequence of the progressive increase of the LHC beam kinetic energy, necessitating technical interventions in the highly radioactive areas around the dumps. [...]

Design of the third-generation lead-based neutron spallation target for the neutron time-of-flight facility at CERN / n_TOF Collaboration
The neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) is a pulsed white-spectrum neutron spallation source producing neutrons for two experimental areas: the Experimental Area 1 (EAR1), located 185 m horizontally from the target, and the Experimental Area 2 (EAR2), located 20 m above the target. The target, based on pure lead, is impacted by a high-intensity 20-GeV/c pulsed proton beam. [...]
